When Your Troubles Get You Down

Description
A short and simple love song. For the instrumental, I tried to do a bit of Wes Montgomery style octaves played with the thumb. Although I think Wes can rest easy, I do like the sound. Anyway , over to you - hope you like the song!

Lyrics
When Your Troubles Get You Down

When your troubles get you down,
Sit so heavy on your shoulders
When you’re turned inside
By all you have been through
I will take you in my arms
Run my fingers through your hair
I will fold you round and take you
To my dreams

When your day has pushed you down
Where your mind doesn’t want to be
When time weighs so hard
You’re sinking low
I will try to make you smile
I will take you by the hand
And you know that I will be there
All the time

Instrumental

‘Cause when my troubles get me down
Sit so heavy on my shoulders
When I’m turned inside
By all I have been through
You take me in your arms
Run your fingers through my hair
You fold me round and take me
To your dreams.

When Your Troubles Get You Down
In the classic singer/songwriter style. The vocal is particularly nice. You have a bit of "Eric Clapton singing a ballad" going on here. Think "Wonderful Tonight."

Thanks
I appreciate the positive comments, Andrew, and the comparison with a special favourite of mine. If I could now just get his guitar licks off !

Delightful!
Reminds me of something Tom Paxton would write. I love your gentle, beckoning voice. This was a wonderful Sunday morning song, thank you!!

Yes, I'd like a dollar for ever time I have sung "Last Thing On My Mind" back in the coffee lounge days of the folk boom! I appreciate your generous comments - thanks for listening!

When...
Expressive lyrics & tuneful, easy-going and oh so listenable vocals make this a keeper. Like the jazzy octave lead--might be a tad too out front in
mix. This could've been longer--always a good sign.

I appreciate comments, John. Especially glad you like the lead break. I'll have a look at taking it back in the mix - I guess when I was listening to it I was so focussed on hearing what I was playing that I didn't pay much attention to where it was in the mix.

The song is short, and I added the instrumental to lengthen it. I considered adding something else (another verse or a bridge) but it's one I've been doing for a long time and I'm happy with the structure, so left it alone.

Thanks for listening and taking the trouble to make suggestions - much appreciated!

Nicely done
Hi Philip. Your smooth vocal style reminds me a lot of Gordon Lightfoot. Nice, simple sentiment in the lyrics too. The guitar work complements the vocals well and the Wes style lead is nicely done. Good post. Regards, Peter.

Very kind of you! Maybe, on reflection, I should have talked to you about the mix, but I'm happy with the music side of things. See you soon!

I was thinking.....
This was more like John Denver then "Master Montgomery " I use his style in a lot of my jazzier stuff.....

Nice love song though, with a lot of Denver flavour....

Yes, I'd have to agree that the song is much closer to something John Denver would have done than what Wes would have done! Glad you enjoyed listening to it, and I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

very polished
This is the third song of yours among the many I've listened to recently. So far I've enjoyed your very smooth play and you have a great voice. Multi-talented on the guitar work as well and the mix have a warm feel to it.

Thanks
I'm very pleased that you've gone through to some of the older posts - much appreciated! I'm certainly enjoying what modern microphones and Garageband can do, including the ability to easily add little bits and pieces through the song, do it again if it doesn't work, fiddle with the sound quality - not forgetting the opportunity to post it on MacJams and have others comment! Thanks for taking the time to listen.
