Bittersweet Hope 0x02

Description
Life can be bittersweet. There is longing, anguish, beauty, and hope. However, there is always hope.

This is an extended and updated version of "Contemplate the Unthinkable", with the appearance of the flute of hope.

It is my first attempt at extracting music from the intriguing sonic mood software (here). Very little was altered from the original MIDI output from Sonic Mood. A couple bars at the beginning and end added and altered, and a few bars of hope added in the middle repeated section.

Sort of a sci-fi ominousness...
...that sort of eerie, the monster might get you feeling... the flute is angelic, it sort of pierces the doom with light... Sweet!!!

Hi Eduard....
I enjoyed the backdrop to this interesting mix. The dark ambient soundscape would have sounded just as well without the flute, to me. I like simplicity in two dimensions sometimes.

The flute however, as a component of this piece, added a lighter edge to the mix. The soundscape turned from raw emotions to a longing for something hoped for but that might not come, and that was understood by those performing.

I listened through two different sets of headphones and the nuances were all subtly there to be heard.

The outro was perfect for the mood of the piece.

Take care.

Trumpet of hope?
Cool piece.

With these (randomly) generated it's always the trick to get the random generator to do what you want. Here for instance I love the couple of deep bass notes, so I would want to set the settings to have some more of them. On the other hand it's good to leave the audience wanting more.

What are the samples you used to realize the midi output? Your flute is a welcome addition, except right in the beginning. The low notes sound more like a trumpet, and contrast a bit much with the synths. As soon as you go up it's fine.

Interesting stuff!

Eriesque...
No points for that made-up word here in scrabble-lol. Regardless Eduard, there is a dark mood to this one, something underlying that evokes a chill in me. Like Phil was saying, something is coming or might be around the corner! The flute was too sparse for me to give hope imo. I wanted to hear more of it. I was still on edge. Still a great mood setter "bittersweet" Thanks for sharing :) patty

Big improvement
(Just possibly because I listened to the former track through the iPhones internal speakers ;-) But I really like the flute track on this! Great sound, with just the right tremolo(?). The angelic organ I have heard before, oh, on one of my own pieces :-) but it is well used here. Arouses just the right feelings. The extension was helpful too. Good job!

Speaking of which: Just got home after a small celebration at work of my coffee mug staying with me for 30 years, from my first summer job back in 1981 to this day ;-)

Take care,

Henke

Not a place to go alone
Has the feel of sine pads swaying in the wind, cutting and plaintive waves. I hear extended tuning forks - but the reassuring flute holds it together

I feel hope with something dark around it ... at around 3:57 hope hope prevails. You create wonderful images. The flute of hope is a lovely contrast against that deep sound bed. Enjoyed!

As much as I liked its predecessor this definitely adds some additional dynamics. Almost as if you grabbed the original at the edges and pulled it in all directions :-) I'm always a sucker for those glassine type textures. The flute of hope also fits nicely.

I thought what Jack commented was perfect to describe its emotive thrust.

There is indeed a mix of emotions
I have listened twice to catch everything that you have going on. Nice piece Eduard. I think the title is rather apt.

tinkered underneath..
no playing over this, it was 100% computer generated, even the flute of hope was hopelessly driven by software. i simply worked under the hood to choose and tweak the instrument sounds attached to the MIDI, and add a couple bars at the beginning, end, and the short major-chord hope in the middle. of course, the setup to create the MIDI took a couple of hours, and the under-the-hood tweaking to get the overall arrangement and final sounds took many, many hours.

Very interesting mix!
I like generative music apps (I use Mixtikl in that regard). This is interesting which is what I usually strive for. I like how the intentional phrases are mixed in with the serendipitous ones. Keep experimenting!

Mood software indeed!
The overall feeling you get from this is amazing, the title really nails it. I'm going to have to try that software. Good piece.

it was not. it will not be. it simply is. it is an experiment in computer-generated music. it is altered afterward to sound more pleasing. a hope is to make beautiful music with computer software assistance. is it a success? ---------------------... [see more]
