Description
The Glastonbury Festival, from time to time, enjoys heavy rainfall. This is a sad song that links tears to rain and Glastonbury Rain is the metaphor for that. It's another song played live so there are issues of my head moving around in front of the mike and for some inexplicable reason the recording stops just short of the end.

Lyrics
Glastonbury Rain copyright Grahame Hicks

Verse 1
In the unlikely event that I should leave
And not return to your fields of green
Would you then begin to believe
Things were not (quite) what they seemed

Verse 2
In the unlikely event that I should cry
Uncontrolled like Glastonbury Rain
Would you then realise
Things were not quite the same

Chorus 1
Clouds will wash away the pain
Tears from the skies
Glastonbury Rain becomes your disguise

Verse 3

In the unlikely event that you should die
While I’m far, far away
Don’t believe I wouldn’t cry
Like Glastonbury Rain

Chorus 2
Years roll by nights turn to days
Feelings change the things we say
But however we and whoever we
Turn out to be I will always love you

Ending
In the unlikely event that I should leave
Glastonbury Rain (if I should cry)
Glastonbury Rain (if I should leave)
Glastonbury Rain

Simple
delivery, but complex lyrics that took me a while to work out (no bad thing!).

Got the general idea that it was about illusions, but also about the love that is real underneath it all? Quite a playful start to each verse adds another dimension of slight irony?

Impressed that you should have done all that live. i hope it went down all right (along with the rain!)

Cheers now

Marc

Glastonbury Rain
I like the changes, reminiscent of Jethro Tull & Moody Blues. Nice vocal, and stripped down arrangement works well.

Thankyou
for the nice comments. Jethro Tull, wow. One of my boyhood hero bands. Ian Anderson was a genius of his time so that is a big accolade.

Sounding really good
Hi Grahame. Liked this. The stripped back recording has a nice balance between the vocals and guitar and your voice is sounding really good on this. I like the chord changes in the chorus, too. Great photo - just your typical English day? Regards, Peter.

Rain
Grahame, have you ever heard of Alan Hull (fairly obscure English 70s artist--think he was a member of an even more obscure prog group)? your voice reminds me a lot of his. not so much the song style, but the singing. ilike the sound on your acoustic. i'm really loving simplified voice and guitar tunes like this. between this, Alackbass, and PeterB, i'm gonna eventually be influenced towards a stripped tune. it's just my blasted acoustic sounds so bad.

Hi Sammy
Yep, I heard of Alan Hull and the bamd was Lindisfarne. A geordie band that were a great influence (and I suppose still must be). My favourite track of theirs was Lady Eleanor which I play from time to time. I felt like you about my stripped back sound but I think the reason I like doing it is because it improves me. You have to get it right - there's no room (literally) for error!! Give it a bash.

unlikely
Man, that's a depressing song.

On the technical side, roll off some low frequencies from the vocals?

i really loved the riff on the intro...but then there's a second of dead space like something happened. didn't sound like it was intentional. ok forgot about that now. really like the vocal delivery and your lyrics....really impressive. love the folk vibe...and your almost conversational style. yeah...your head was jumping around lol.....and yeah...the ending....dude what were you smoking?

Second live song
I've listened to today and I do think there is something that disappears when the recording process takes over.

Nicely done.

I see you're using an MRS1266 - do you know http://zoomforum.us/ ? A quiet little forum but some good musicians and far less busy than this place!

Cheers

Having just put up a song about rain i thought I'd see what else was out there on the subject and found yours! Really like the simple straightforward delivery. Our previous upload was a live take for a bit of contrast. really like the line "In the unlikely event" cheers Mark

Something about a live take...
I can almost feel those showers in the stumming and atmosphere you created... I like the unexpected tonal shift in the chorus; always be fearless, it will almost always serve you well, as it has here.
