Standing Waves #1 (An Experimental Ambient Mix)

Description
This is a little different than my usual Ambient stuff. It is more electronic and more experimental along with the Ambient underlayers.

It's also a more normal sounding mix of instruments. I'm searching for some nice synth sounds and these are the first new ones I've found/made.

It comes in at over 8 minutes. A little long but I didn't feel like cutting it down any. Oooops.

Interesting envelope
Nice overtones in the envelopes and progression in the filters. There is a movie waiting to be made around this progression.

Hi........
I tried for some different sounds than my normal drones and I think people will notice this about the mix. Not too happy though with the chord structure. That's why it is Experimental and not Ambient.

I'd love to do a soundtrack for a movie, short or long. Then I can rest easy.

Take care.

hi paul....i'm in for the long haul. i find this looser/sparser arrangement more atmospheric than the busier stuff...and i love hearing this genre without a beat to restrict the imagination. definite space-scape sci-fi feel to this one....with the fade and build you've got going on. cool. i'm halfway through and still enjoying. i'm only missing some little snippets of something else....maybe panned out all over the place for a little textural variation....sub-atomic electronica/sfx.

probably shorten it by a couple of minutes...or spice it up and flesh it out a bit. either way, you have a cool soundbed going on. enjoyed.

Hi Julian......
Thanks for stopping by to listen. Your points are all valid and if/when I come to review the piece, I'll take them on board and see what I might come up with. The piece DOES need something else to finish it. I agree totally.

Take care.

Hidden depths
This soundtrack would go so well with an underwater documentary or scene in a nautical thriller ... or my profile pic maybe :)

Hi Serena.....
All of the above. What ever you feel it could go with is OK for me. I just put them together for others to go on their own journey or see/hear what they want as the 'scape progresses along, or not. Sometimes I'm so fed up with hearing the mix in its various stages that I don't imagine anything except a dark hole in the middle of a vacuum, or not.

Take care.

Paul

I would have no idea how to even begin such a thing let alone sustain it for eight minutes. Excellent sci-fi movie soundtrack music. I'm impressed.

Hi Andrew.....
I thought I'd dropped you a note yesterday and also commented here but I don't know what happened. I've had this missing comment a few times now.

Thanks for your kind thoughts. They spur me on.

Take care.

Experimental music is any music that challenges the commonly accepted notions of what music is. There is an overlap with avant-garde music. John Cage was a pioneer in experimental music and defined and gave credibility to the form. As with other edge
