Description
A favorite style of my wife... like Kris Kristofferson, in a way. Maybe more folk than Outlaw Country...? The song has great meaning for me.

Hope you like it!

Lyrics
Dusty Old Spirits

The journeys we've been on the trials we've seen
We know we can Trust if you know what I mean
And though they're been times we couldn't pay rent
Can't justify all the money we spent

If you believe we can take it from here
The roads that we take are often not clear
At this point I see that there's no need to run
I'll now take your hand and we'll walk to the sun

And things that did hurt, we now let them go
As dusty old spirits no longer to show
All of the gray that was to hard to see
Is suddenly bright, in focus and free

If you believe we can take it from here
The roads that we take are often not clear
At this point I see that there's no need to run
I'll now take your hand and we'll walk to the sun

dusty
i like the dusty old crackly recording! the vocals are panned far apart and i found myself losing focus at the beginning....but then i settled down. ok, that's the nits......because the song is a gem - i really really like that down the scale thing you do on 'walk to the sun'....it's a really catchy hook. sometimes an entire song lives for that hook....and you've got a really cool one there. your lyrics are simple but not trite and although the two vocal tracks could be tighter it doesn't detract much because you really nail the song with your vocal delivery. interesting you put 'Trust' with a capital 'T'. i've just had a day talking about it...synchronicity. your guitar noodles along nicely...but it's the bass line i'm loving here...wraps around everything so perfectly. the guitar break is a haunting dream....i would have taken some of the high end off the acoustic here. the ending is sweet....simple last line repeat...simple and effective. this is a very catchy song because of its honesty and purity. i was fearful of some country dirge.....but this is something bob dylan would have been proud to have written. full marks from across the water. thanks doug.

Thanks Julian!
Your comments are gold and will be addressed when I eventually redo.

I'm glad you wrote so much! I'm inspired to develop my commenting, as I'm often fairly curt.

Thank you for finding depth in this tune.

Ah yes
Trust with a "T." It's an entity, like a character in a play. It must be constantly catered to or it leaves...

I can hear the Kris in it . Great lyrics and a nice simple sensibility to the guitar. I love when the tasty lead riff comes in with that bit of vibrato and verb on it. The bass is tight underneath it all and holds it all together.
Nice song ... I like the sense of resolve to the ending. The last line is great.

Thank you sir
I'm not as grizzly, though. I had the progression, then the melody fell into place. I had to get some words in place before it went away. I thought it was pretty straight from beginning to end. Must of been in the flow. I appreciate your time and comments!

Terrific
Ahhh, Kris is so cool. I loved him in the movie A Star is Born. I really like the lyrics, and the way you recorded your vocals are interesting. Great stuff!

Hey Dani
A bit coarse, I admit. I wanted to keep it straight as I could... as it was, I redid the harmonies several times. I don't know why it was such an issue. Ah, but what of that. I'm glad you stopped by!

'ambling' along quality to this performance.... love the haunting guitar sounds and the split vocals makes it 'different' to be sure......... good lyrics too Doug.... lovin' it, regards M

Thanks man. I thought this was indicative of a big part of American music. Timeless in a way, a true mix of folk and country. I'll probably fix the vocal effect, in time. I'm glad you listened and commented!

Authentic...
Hi Doug. Authentic feel and strong lyrics. I like the vocal work but I agree with Julian that the separation is disconcerting at first - but then the awkwardness seems to disappear. Enjoyed. Kind regards, Peter.

I like the theme of strength of character built through experiencing setbacks. Vocals are strong, and although the timing on the harmonies is off at certain points, they still work well. I like the guitar line, though maybe it was up in the mix a db or 2 too much for my taste. Cool solo break.

My kind of music
Love that gravelly voice with such a sense of reality and meaning about it. Had an immediate feeling about it that made you want to read the lyrics and find out what it was about. I think my spirit maybe one of the dusty ones but I am trying to clean it up a little and make it get back on that road whether it feels like it or not.

I like it!
Very much so Doug. Your lyrics beautifully done, even just reading them--of course, a good melody for them and a fine performance of the combination made this extremely good. I wish I could do this (maybe I will be soon--but I doubt so well as you). I like your voice very much by the way--it's cool toned and well rounded and your diction is on the spot. Thank you Doug--Michael

great track
i can pick up a Kristofferson vibe on this one, but more of an inspiration. i agree with Hackney Bloke about the doubletracked vocals at the beginning but after a minute or so, it starts to feel soupy and enveloping (in a really appealing way). I can actually hear the Flaming Lips covering this one (maybe i will if you're agreeable). great lyrics, and performance. really wonderful tune.

like the split vocals, great voice you have and a wonderful laid back vibe to this song that reminds me too of Kristofferson.
This is a great performance Doug, good lyrics and I love the guitar break, a great song and very much enjoyed.
