Description
I've heard a lot of good "Lo-fi" on MJ so I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring.

Lyrics
what good's a word,
that's offered up too late
they left the house alone
but they stole the gates
it came together good, it
fell apart too soon
now everything you touched
is a bleeding wound
cuz i'm not sure what else to do
i'm not one to pray but i'll pray for you
here's a wish, the mist is on the breeze
in a rose garden by the sea
your hand in someone's hand
and if you think it's time to leave
may the pathstones guide your weary feet
& take you somewhere you can sleep
in a rose garden by the sea
when time is up - its up
but let's be fair
you can't equate with that
just like you can't see air
cuz i'm not sure what else to do
i'm not one to pray but i'll pray for you
here's a wish, the mist is on the breeze
in a rose garden by the sea
your hand in someone's hand
and if you think its time to leave
the sky above is turning grey
and the dandelions are blowing away
in a rose garden by the sea

Yanno...
I never really stopped to find out the definition of "lo-fi" until I read that side bar on this song. I wonder if this means the ceiling fan squeaking over my microphone and my dog rattling his dog tags on my stuff qualifies it for this genre? Well, fortunately you had none of my problems on this beauty Relic. It's a rather bittersweet song, hard for me to categorize although in setting a mood it works well. Well played and I liked that cadence in your vocal, which plays a prominent part in that mood I was speaking of. Very well done and I liked it greatly. Thanks once again, Michael

lo fi
I have to confess, I didn't read the definition. Lo-fi just sounds more hip than "contemporary folk" LOL.
Thanks for listening and your kind comment!

It's hard to hear how the genre lo-fi applies while listening to the pure acoustic tone you captured. Great changes. I love the bluesy verses and Beatle-esque chorus.

beatles
I wasn't really thinking of the beatles while putting it together, but they of course were the masters of mixing up bluesy touches with more major key poppy sounds. thanks for checking it out!

First off I really like the lyrics and your delivery. Great tone on the acoustic guitars. Works great with one on each side. Nice bridge -chorus ... like the melody and the chord changes. I like this tune.

in the moment
I glad you liked that part of it. Partly I did it quickly because I don't have much time to spend on music these days. But also, I read an interview with Neil Young recently where he talked about how thought-out the music and arrangements were on his self-titled album, vs. the loose and spontaneous music on Everyone Knows this is Nowhere... the point being... I know which album I like better!

Awesome
I want to find that rose garden by the sea. Love the lyrics, your voice sounds great as well. Such a pleasant sound, your Lo-fi attempt was a darn great one!

Lofi?
Genre aside, this is great work Alec. The's a hint of Alex Chilto. In your delivery here that gives the whole song a lovely symmetry mid 70's vibe. The guitar is really well mixed too, some great playing and some characterful string squeaks round out the whole thing. As ever you are the master of power pop, in this instance of the acoustic variety.

lowest of the low
I will confess I don't really know what lo-fi is... but, as on all my songs, the air conditioner is one of the featured instruments... (OK, the furnace gets in there in the wintertime). Thanks for your kind comments! some of those 70s powerpoppers did some really nice acoustic tunes... Big STar, of course... Badfinger's "We're for the Dark" also comes to mind...

I tried recording on a tascam once, I found it difficult to get anything sounding remotely acceptable. Some can work magic with it though ...

i wish i could play like that
your acoustic playing is great man. it's laid back and just a shade lazy but it never strays out of time or has to play catch up (OK maybe once or twice, but it's overall so cool that I don't care). i dig it. also like the lyrics, they've got an 18th century romantic quality. were you brooding, looking out over the sea in a puffy shirt when you wrote this?

puffy shirt
ha ha! the lyrics are probably a tad too "precious" .... It was originally supposed to be a noise-punk jam so the rose garden thing was supposed to contrast with that. But then it changed.... oh well!

Just sloppy enough to be amazing. Great chord progression. The highest of the lo-fi's. The vox could come up a bit, but other than that I love it. Plus the lyrics are killer. Nice job. Inspirational to me. DL'd.

Great track -
lo-fi - hi-fi - my kind of fi. Really good writing and solid performance on the vox and guitar. Shades of Elliot Smith.

Lo-fi...
... quite a departure from your harder rocking posts. i really like this R67. the stripped down quality of this song brings out your excellent guitar work and it's crisp tone. the chord changes flow together seamlessly and the lyrics are engaging. maybe my favorite of your so far... great work!

I'm a fan of your stuff so I really appreciate the kind words. I guess the chords in the chorus are a little bit like the progression in "the Rain Song"... Now I wonder who Pagey ripped off for that one? :)
