Four Scenes (Live 4/15/11)

Description
This was my graduation piece from my studies in composing for film at The Iceland Academy of the Arts. It was premiered on the 15th of April at my graduation concert.

This piece, written for two grand pianos, a string quartet, clarinet and flute is influenced by the American minimalists but still draws greatly from melodic nature-romanticism. It's divided into 4 parts, each one describing a setting for a scene from a film that the listener is to create for himself.

I. Int. House. Morning - Ext. Field. Morning.
II. Ext. Forest Trail. Day.
III. Ext. Beach. Twilight.
IV. Ext. Forest. Night - Int. House. Night.

This is the live recording I promised you guys.

The picture was taken at the graduation ceremony on the 11th of June, where I was selected to give a speech on behalf of the music department.

Enjoy!

Congratulations
again and thanks for sharing this live version as well. Sounds great. Maybe posting some creds to the orchestra? Who are they?

Think I saw the Swedish flag by your name, are you here on visit?

Take care,
Henke

fabulous
Congratulations, on the graduation, as well as this piece being performed! What a great accomplishment. Please see my notes on your prior submission of this regarding the piece itself.

The musicians did a superb job of playing this complicated piece, you really gave the pianist a workout :-) Was that you?

Loved the climax at the end, the abrupt stop, the long shocked pause as the audience dangles over the cliff of sudden silence, followed by the rush of applause!

Congratulations again, so wonderful to hear your own piece performed live, and congrats to the musicians who performed this so well.

ttfn,
Drakonis

Taste and intelligence...
I love how you make music that draws a listener in without having that music be trite or saccharin, Einar... Your use of different ranges and sonorities against one another leaves the piece sounding wide and spacious...And I continue to enjoy your use of a solid low end in classical soundtrack writing...

This is a great listen... It would add something to a visual foreground, but it loses nothing being a piece standing on its own...

An honor
Nice honor. Congratulations. You should post a link to your speech, too. Very Philip Glass. Deconstructionist and minimalist, for sure. Nice variations. What's next for you?!
