Description
for some reason I thought that there was a one minute song challenge; apparently I was wrong. that's okay, my wife has learned to live with that particular quirk of mine. for what it's worth, here is my entry into the one minute song challenge. i wrote the harmonies on piano, then sang them and doubled a couple of them with some of the horrible vocal jampack instruments. that jampack is the worst; if you're looking for vocals that you can use in a realistic setting, go take vocal lessons or hit up a friend that sings. that said, I often use the instruments and mess them up with flex time and a bunch of effects.

onto the drums: originally I had written a really sparse beat, and then decided that I wanted something a little more upbeat so that my kids could go nuts when I play the tune for them. added a simple repetitive beat, bounced it to audio and ran it through a plug called buffer override, then cut out the parts I liked and added them to another track. added a backwards cymbal sound and a casio beep. done.

then I took the original piano tracks that layed out my harmonies, and assigned them to different sounds: ESM synth mainly, but there is also TAL Noisemaker in there as I had made a sound for the TAL challenge and didn't end up using it. waste not, want not. added a bass which was also made with TAL Noisemaker and it was done.

The song is 57 seconds long and I really couldn't be bothered to spend too much time on the mix, but I like how it turned out. I picture this being used in a kids show like Wow Wow Wubbsie, or Yo Gabba Gabba (I love the music they use). If you are reading this, I challenge you to sit down and write a one minute song and post it. If you do: I won't feel like such an ass.

for someone like me, who works extremely slow, this achievement in a session is very impressive. I'd do the amount of work you mentioned in the description in a week ! Nice and creative work.

well
maybe it is funny, after all. You know what could really set this apart? Get your kiddos to do the vocal part (if mom will allow). They, and other children, would embrace it in a flash -

Maybe a "One Minute Children's Song Challenge" is in order...

lol - you were one busy dude for so long
i guess a one minute challenge looked too good to pass up - even if it was just in your head. Love this confection Michael - and I could definitely hear it on a kiddie show. Maybe that should be the new challenge. The kiddie show challenge! The drums sound great - as does everything else.

sounds *exactly* like the opening to a kids' show, but a good one. I pictured claymation at the show's opening moving in fast motion and going thru different morphs.

This is priceless
I love this - very spur of the moment and light. I never did get this pak - this is fun. Reminds me of a rainy beach trip with only one Madeleine VHS tape to amuse the kids that played for hours and hours and embedded itself in my brain. Still there!

LOVE IT
The bass in this is so cool. It's spooky, but fun. My kinds are going to be so in to this. Once I saw you posed this challenge I went right in and threw mine down. Felt good to play guitar. Haven't done that in like 6 months. Thanks for the inspiration!

Everything perfect here
Brilliant. Male band version of Jem? And please, seriously, please keep making up challenges as you go along, just so we can listen to all the stuff you're working on! Also glad you posted the lyrics, I hate it when I don't understand the song and can't find the lyrics...

if you listen three times in a row, it's three minutes (that's my entry to the most insipid comment challenge. what? there isn't a most insipid comment challenge?)

groovy, happy, strange little tune. perfect for the ipod, thanks for the dl.

Thanks for the detailed "How To".

I love how you used the jampack vocal instruments. Perfect for the tune, and being a fan of Wubbzy and Yo, this is what I want to hear at 6AM!!

Thanks Michael!

weirdly catchy
but then, I am afraid that is what I think of every time I hear a new piece from you... fun and quirky. It's been a decade since my TV was tuning in kid shows, I've missed the recent things you're referring to... my brain still goes back to Electric Company and Sesame Street :-) Anyway, loved the chords and harmonies here!

well this was an interesting groove
I gotta say I was hoping there was more coming. Maybe you could expand this into something else when in the mood. Now I'm reading the description and it all makes sense. Self-contained it's still a pretty nice ditty you got here.

Funchild
It starts somewhat freaky with the bam-bam and then goes naive with the dah-dah and the beep-beep-beep. Kids have to love it. I do.
