That's beautiful! I like when the guitars switch roles at around 1:20. That is such a wonderful melody happening there. Very impressive composition and performance. And the tone you captured is outstanding!

Thanks man
for having a listen. I really like the tone of my guitar. It has a nice combination of bright and deep tones. Plus it plays pretty easy for an acoustic.

for having a listen and for the nice comments.

I've been to Nepal and Tibet Himalayas a few times. I like it there; it's nice to get away from everything and do a little mountaineering. I've even climbed some stuff out in your neck o' the woods.

Yep...
Hi Mike. Very calming instrumental. The guitar work and the tone you were able to capture are real highlights. The interplay between the guitars is first rate. Sounded like a warmer place than the photo depicts :-) Thanks for the post, Peter.

omg - so you've climbed in tibet? is there any extreme sport you haven't done mike? what an incredible photo. ok ok, the SONG - ALSO incredible - your guitar sounds fabulous - you have major acoustic chops. i want to hear the story of this climb!!

Thanks Karen
for having a listen. I tend to overplay the acoustic; I need to relaxe moore.

I've attempted Shishapangma twice and have yet to summit. Both times I've tried to climb this peak I've gotten weathered off. It just seems to lie right in the jet stream and every evening gail force winds rip through camp 1. Someday I'll get to the summit of this mountain. It is a beautiful peak and gets very few mountaineering teams. That makes it rather special.

Very nicely done Mike. The guitars are sounding good. I always struggle with acoustic recording but this is excellent.

Cheers

for the nice comments. I struggle as well. Fortunately my mic and preamp setup seem to work pretty well. I think that's more luck than skill.

A bit of a departure for you, but definitely showing versatility and sounding great. It sounds like you're very comfortable on the Martin, some nice runs. Do you take long to get used to the acoustic after playing mainly electric? Nice composition, mix sounds good too.

finkeldink said 2207 days ago (July 6th, 2011)
Heck yeah
Acoustic is a brutally difficult instrument. It is hard for me to relax when I'm playing. It's way harder to overplay the electric so I have a hard time playing soft. Also, any sloppy play is amplified on the acoustic so much. It can really be frustrating.

Your
Acoustic work is still unmistakable and still carries a hint of metal in there.
Great arrangement and neat stereo work.
Tone to envy!

for having a listen.
You're right, the metal would come through on any instrument I play! Ha.

Hopefully, I can keep duplicating the tone in the future.

Overplayed?
I think not. This is just gorgeous. The tone and vibe are amazing. Puts me in mind of when metal bands kick back and show their chops on acoustics. This is a keeper for the iPod

This is the first mellow song of yours that I've heard, and now I'm a bigger fan than ever.
I know first hand how hard it is to play and record a straight up acoustic song. And to play virtually mistake free like this is just freekin awesome.

Underbelly
There's a wonderful buoyancy to your playing here. There's no need to try to perfect it. In fact, by doing so, you would probably just drive the vitality and vivacity out of it.

Shishapangma? Now there's a good title for your next gale-force composition.

This piece offers a nice break from your hard & heavy guitar work … like it represents the soft underbelly of the beast.

I'm willing Tibet this music just flowed...
It sounds that way... the "variation/switchover" partway in was genius, I love conversations between voices, and these are distinct, crisply recorded, nicely panned, and offer each other space to each offer their story without excess embellishment. Love it.

Some delightful
picking going on here....it's a little Oldfield here and there...which is great ...I can hear a set of Northumbrian elbow pipes coming in hither and thither .....and the bit at 2:00 is deffo an Oldfield run, brilliant this is and has a slightly oriental, nepalese flavour as well.....super.....
