Description
was experimenting with effects and drum programming and came up with this. I picture it as a soundtrack for a nature film. i used a lot of different stuff for the drums: samples of an acetone rhythm ace beatbox, my playground drum kit, some samples of drums that I loaded in alchemy and tweaked a bunch (for that galloping tribal drum sound), and a kit made out of hissing sounds from in between vocals on other songs. the song started out as a slow song, and then just kind of morphed into this.

the synths and loops were all made with zebralette (my new freebie find) or alchemy. i recorded some of the parts and bounced to audio then ran through Logics spectral filter and sidechained with one of the drum parts. other bits I just cut out random phrases that I had played and then looped them through the song.

the glockenspiel sound is a Hapi drum and a xylophone played together and then pitched too high. I could have just used a glockenspiel sound, but this was more fun. the picture is my kids.

This
Made me wanna go back to bed...
There's stuff going on in here I can't even begin to imagine how to achieve. It all sounds lush and full... Like a moist rain forrest.... :)
A little gem of a tune

Big Love!
This is right up my alley. Impressive in so many ways and a great mellow tune too! A download for sure.

You could easly make this twice as long and perhaps introduce another melody-part. It's too short!

I also appreciate your technical description on how creating the song. I can only hope to be as accomplished as you in Logic one day.

Keep more like this coming for christ's sake!

A very
artistic style of using synths Michael and I do wish i could manipulate them as you do.... this sounds so 'nature like' that it really does take one for a walk into the woods.... excellent work, cheers M

kids and animals
cool photo. i like the whimsy in this. the glockenspiel sound is great. the best thing about having kids is that, for people attuned to it, they're a great excuse to revisit the idea of fun. i find it infects everything, and it's all positive.

Mellow complexity
on display as all those little blips, bloops, snips, snaps, and other less onomotopeic elements combine.

Happy, carefree, sunny
Reminds me of 'One Too Many Mornings' (Chemical Brothers). I love it when songs do that! Thanks for the detailed description. Another fine post. Way to keep MJ cool on a hot summer day!

The idea and execution of said is wonderful to listen to and immerse myself into.

So you don't like to mess around much?
lol - I love the description alone - and it's scary that I'm beginning to understand most of it - even the playground drum set. The multi-timbral depth of the melody voice is beautiful - so much going on in there. The rhythm that kicks in at around 1:00 is excellent. Great tune.

I could hear this behind some National Geographic film.At first there's a little bit of danger and then it turns light and playful till the end where it feels calm ....A really fun listen.

Real nice!
I've used U-He's Zebralette myself on a few tunes; it's a cracking little synth, I have to say.

This is short, but very sweet; a lovely soundbed. Trees? Yes, with a full choir of accompanying fauna doing its thing to enhance the ambience.

Great stuff!

Wow! You made a musical enchanted kingdom. I felt as if I opened a trapdoor and fell into a giant music box or something like that. Original. Wonderful. Thank you.

you
are really good at this songwriting thing. I really like your style, I went back in your log and listening to "I've never seen a UFO" because I remembered really liking that one, you've got a very distinct sound, the michael2 sound, it's got something special, different from anything else i've heard

My goodness
Quite a lot of work went into this, and it shows! Sort of a Neo-African vibe... like music you'd hear under a film about the beginning of a safari adventure... So many little things to pay attention to... Love the gentle ending!!!

Love it. So many pieces of this that I dig. The rhythm when it kicks in is sick! Plus i love how lush it sounds without ever becoming muddled. I will download and loop to create a nice soundtrack for the evening.

Love the nuances and noises in this piece. Some people tinker with watches or whatnot; you tinker with side chains. Very enjoyable. Thanks for posting.

cool
very very cool. that sound that comes in at 1:35 or so is particularly awesome. I like the "sound art" kind of feel, it evokes something hard to put into words, which is the beauty of a good instrumental. Thanks for explaining the process, the sidechaining thing is something I'd like to learn more about.
