Description
From my first CD (2003) "a dichotomy of silence"... I wanted to write something with a smoky muted trumpet. Not having access to one at the time, I used one on my Proteus 2000. The "B" section is improvised. Yeah, you get to hear my disjointed ramblings as a keyboard soloist... :) This is one of the tunes I'm considering revisiting from this CD for my next one; now that I have much greater technology, playing skill, and access to the kind of players I want... But it's a reasonably cool vibe.

A really enjoyable listen. I particularly dug the fretless bass (patch) and the muted trumpet. Very authentic sounds thanks partially to the quality technology. But it's your ability to play those instruments in an authentic way that makes this really work.

Thanks, Andrew!
I tried hard to stay within the physical realm of what each instrument could do (assume a 5-string bass), I am certain I went out of a trumpet's range on the top, but the trumpet solos were all monophonic on purpose, set apart from the deliberately polyphonic piano solo...

Very Nice___
I was moving in my seat. Nice groove. Love the bass, and everything else for that matter. Great transitions and muted trumpet. Nice work.

Enjoyed - Thanks for sharing,

mvh : )

Relaxing
Nice groove established - I do like that bass! I would still prefer a guitar to come in that cut a bit more than the muted trumpet - but that is probably personal preference - I think everything should have a guitar in it :-)
Very smooth arrangement. Enjoyable listening.

If I'd had one...
I'd have put it in... but I can't solo on one at all, and didn't have anyone available at the time this was recorded... :) Maybe an archtop.. :)

Oh!
That trumpet sounds so good and authentic.... I just love this kind of music that takes you on mental journeys that are so relaxing and at the same time entertaining..... lovely mix of instruments and so well played.... your 'disjointed ramblings' don't sound half bad Phil LOL..... lovely stuff going on here, regards M

Very nice listen this morning...Phil, you have a very nice way of spreading the mix. I love the use of reverb on the trumpet to enhance that "Miles" feeling. You're one talented cat and it's great to have you on board here at MJ's.

Thanks man...
There are parts I'd keep as is (the drums, for example...) I think "perfected on this would be a real trumpet replacing my synth one, and maybe a more experienced hand on the soloing...

MIles
Reasonably cool vibe indeed. Love the changes and the B part is fab. Reminds me of late 80's jazz/pop Simply Red, Level 42, and others. Love that stuff and this too.Pro level track fer sure. Would be cool to hear it with a real trumpet.

Mileage
Yeh, "reasonably cool vibe"... fits into that groove like a diamond needle.

Technology has come a long way. For not much money these days you can make about any sound you can imagine. As always, the trick is to imagine something familiar enough to understand and new enough to fascinate.

This kept my ears fascinated thru two listens. Thanks for the D/L.

Coolness, that was the part I was the most worried about. I think I took 35 passes at the solo section before I had one I was even comfortable with... Thanks!!!
