Germination

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Germination can imply anything expanding into greater being from a small existence or germ.

wikipedia

This is a continuation to The Dandelion. A microcosm if you will. I added the last 10 or so seconds of Dandelion to the beginning of this one. I hope it doesn’t hinder this piece. Your thoughts are most welcomed.

Now, that the seedlings have found their new home, I wanted to focus on the actual growth aspect. The wonderful beauty in a small place, can hold so much mystery. This is my first submission into the genre of soundtrack. I wanted a simple drone with some undulated textures flowing-well at least that’s what I was aiming for. There is an arpeggio weaving in and out. This is the 2nd piece in that series I hope you will enjoy it.

uh oh...
the sun begins to shine on your newly sprouting talents, heretofore hidden under the rich soil of imagination. This is gorgeous... sparkly and full of life. I will mention one thing my mind was waiting for when this ended... I was expecting the standard (Plagal?) cadence at the end, where your last high note you are holding, drops down a half step to resolve... but I think that would be too cliché. Anyway, I really love the textures you have here, and I am a little curious how much other stuff you have hidden up your sleeves... probably going to post some heavy metal ballad next, or join Mosaica in an operatic duet? Nice stuff, we'll have to make sure davajonah and Paul R and Henke hear this. :-) And of course, it plants seeds of desire for me to go write some more, so thank you!

Hi Eduard
I'm so excited that you like this piece and that inspires you to write, because your about due for another release-hehe jk.

Tell you truthfully the ending was going in that direction but, it was already done before like you said.

About having other stuff up my sleeve; well your listening to it. This last year I wanted to write so bad, but no inspiration. Believe me I looked. It was only then that I started to watch the series on bluray called Earth and the other one called Life. Those two documentaries have inspired my recent pieces. That's it. What comes from the heart is unbelievable when I get inspired to dream :)

John :)
This piece was initially thought up for the ideal of a space theme, but the germination process is about the same thing. As a star's life cycle begins and ends so does a seed from a dandelion :) It must be nice to have a planetarium to go to and have your personal play list with you. And most of all to be on that play list-made my day! Thanks for the comment on the artwork. Although I cant take credit for the original shot-I just did some highlights to it. Thanks again! Very very good. Could be longer, interesting things happening at the end there. But that's for the blooming phase perhaps?

PatriciaGirl said 2075 days ago (July 21st, 2011)
Thank you
Yes the piece could be longer-I agree. I was out of my element or genre and really have no experience in making songs of this nature longer. Maybe with some time and exploration that may change.

The end part that faded, was the beginning of the bloom phase which again is sort the intro in the main piece Dandelion as the cycle repeats.

very impressive. I find myself being drawn to music that sounds like it is an image. this is beautiful. I love the textures in here: the looping feedback sound, the swelling guitar-ish sound, the clicky bits. very nice. reminiscent of many Icelandic bands that I like; check out Mum.

Hi Patty.....
This is a beautiful piece that follows on from and also compliments your previous piece.

This mix is more of a soundscape and, to me, is perfect. I love the backward-sounding items. The intro, again, is inspired in the way you use it. There is continuity and the seeds can be heard germinating through the piece in my mind's eye.

Wonderful.

Take care.

Perfect!!
Paul thanks so much for listening-means a lot to me. The fade in intro was kinda daunting at first but, I was convinced it served to add more background to this piece. Plus, it may insight others to go back to listen to previous pieces being connected like that :)

Your comment about the soundscape was also a thought I was contemplating on as well. Are soundscapes considered to be ambient, or are they cinematic soundtrack because they paint images that can tell a story? I get so confused. I even read Tobins article on genres. Oh well...

Thanks again! Take care-patty!

This is great and fits the subject beautifully! It has that happy seriousness which goes with the close up view of these wonders of nature.

Also reminds me of the old Vangelis album Soil Festivities (which I only have on vinyl and therefor haven't listened to for ages), but I think I can recommend it, at least for when you have finished this great series ;-)

About the few seconds from Dandelion: In my headphones they seem to have a bit too much reverb and therefor sound a bit muddled up. But it's a good idea to have it there...

Thanks to Drakonis for hinting me this way, even if I would have gotten here anyway, as I am a fan. It just took some time since I have been (and still am) busy installing my new iMac 27" :-)

Anyway, really enjoyed this and am looking forward to further installments in the series...

Thanks and take care,
Henke

Hi Henrik
Congratulations on your new iMac, it's always nice to have a faster machine to create and mix music(I'm assuming it's faster).

Also, nice catch on the Vangelis influence; I must say he is one of my favorite artists in electronic composition. Chariots, Blade, Bounty and Antarctica are favorite soundtracks of mine. I have listened to older albums as well like; Mask and Spiral all very cool.

The first few seconds of Dandelion does have an over abundance of reverb which I'll prob update with less. I wanted to implant an image that the Dandelion was the dreamstate from which the seed came from. Seeds have memory, for they are the exact duplicates of their parents. Anyways that's what I was hoping for...

I am just so glad you stopped by with a great comment-I do so appreciate them!

Thanks again and thanks Eduard for the mention:)

Hi again
Thanks so much for the comment and listening in-always appreciate it. The synth I used for this piece was the Roland X8. Using a bell tone sounding patch-I just ran it through the arpeggiator to create a more organic crystal like sound. As for the movie Tree of Life-not yet, there is only one theater playing it. I will have to check it out. Is the soundtrack similar to this? Just curious.

Thanks again and take care,

Yes! Germination was originally a going to be a soundscape for space, but as soon as I added the arpeggiated bells, and other textures, it was clear that this was going to be the second installment to the Dandelion story. So nice catch! Thanks again for the kind comment! Take care-patty

That's exactly what I'm going for. As the seedling sprouts and heads for the surface, with all the soil and organic components helping it along the way, it breaks through the surface to be again helped, but this time by the light of sunrise. (Trumpet sounds as the sunrises to help all life begin)

Very classy post Pattie
This has been sitting waiting for me to listen for a few days now - glad I finally got to it.

I've been playing with synths over the past week or so for a Retroplien project, and am finding lots of ideas in the way you've used sound here. I like how you don't overdo the variety of sounds available and how you just make the absolute most of one or two round-sounding instruments. My immediate response after a minute or so was to think maybe a little more crispness in the mix would be good, but as I listened to the end, I realised that the mellowness was essential to your piece here.
This is very nicely done indeed - I really like it.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

The muddled mix was due to the reverb being overly used, which didn't have the effect I was hoping it would have, but we try and learn. For the patches that were used; yes there were three of them, basically interweaving between each other (I believe) to create the soundscape. That's what interests me in how different sounds relate. I am happy that you liked it! Thanks for the lovely comment:)

Patty

I said this sounds very familiar, then I read your description, I think the connection between songs is warranted, brings me back to the concept album days, almost ambient in your approach but very visual I can almost imagine the plant its roots coming out from the seed . Some more piano in it would have been nice maybe floating above the arpeggiation but I enjoyed it the way it was!

Wonderful life....
..and expanse in this beautiful, flowing track. Having read your introductory remarks, I think you have captured the inception and development of growth in a mysterious and enlightening soundscape. At about 2:55 I am feeling some sort of pulse, whether intended or just a result of overlapping harmonies, that strikes me as a heartbeat. ... This is just gorgeous and would be the perfect backdrop for a nature video that shows the development of micro organisms in time-lapse photography. Magic

Sparkly ambience
