She Walks in Beauty (posthumous collab Lord Byron)

Description
Scouring the public domain once again for lyrics, I seized upon this lovely rhyme by the "mad, bad and dangerous to know" hero to the puffy-shirt crowd, Lord Byron. And threw in some guitar solos.

Lyrics
SHE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that 's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

oh wow
this sounds great, reminds me of the replacements and matthew sweet. great guitar tone and you play so well with the song. i'm calling you the next time I get a power pop number going. man, at 1:51 your solo sounds like a harmonica: very cool. now whatever happened to Lord Byron?

thanks
As you may have guessed, I am a fan of both the Mats and Mr. Sweet. The harmonica-like guitar sound was a strange effect from Guitar rig, can't remember what it was called, "steel tube air" or something like that :)
Thanks very much for stopping by!

cool effect
but truth be told, much of what I experienced was the way that you played those notes.

Grabbed completely by those slashing guitars. The lead guitar breaks are very cool. Great vocal melody and harmonies! Very good mix.

I appreciate your listen and comment! The rhythm guitar sounds are from a Telecaster played thru a digitech processor box that I like quite a bit.

mad, bad, and dangerous to know
cool idea. i knew you were heading in this direction after your last parapet skulking bit of garage melancholia. my wife is a romantic poet scholar turned PR hack so this poem was already banging around in my noggin and now i have a melody to go with it. cool. i love how i know it's a relic tune from the first riff. man that solo is outrageous. Don't think i've heard you let it all hang out like that before. at least not for as long as that. you were kind of a guitar solo flasher before, now you're getting more bold. hanging out casually reading the mail by the box letting the neighbors get a good look. love the break with the bass just before things come back around too. Downloaded!

guitar
thanks man. I usually try not to get too onanistic with the guitar solos, but I couldn't think of anything better to throw in there. It's probably time to try something a bit different musically speaking, but this was fun to do...

Beauty
Love your chimey/crunchy guitar, man. This reminds
me of vinatge Marshall Crehnshaw. Hooky melody fer sure. Bass and drums are friggin'perfect.
Damn fine songwriting and singing. Great post!

crenshaw
I have somehow missed out on Marshall Crenshaw, I don't know why as he is a revered power popper.
I'm going to check out his music...
thanks for listening John!

Lord Byron...
...one of the really "cool" people of his era. This was cool too--good marriage of verse, song and performance.

there's...
... a lot of really good stuff going on here. really like the crispness of the guitar; its tone overall is great. in fact the whole mix in terrific. i have a sense that you work really hard at perfecting your mixes; listening to your posts has helped me with my own process. music chord progressions keep the song compelling. cool concept collabing with lord byron.

nice work!
Relic67 said 2252 days ago (July 23rd, 2011)
thanks
Guitar tone is probably mostly due to bridge position on Fender Tele... I like the bite of that tone.
I don't feel all that confident with the mixing, I usually just listen through until I hear something that sounds bad, and try to fix it somehow, then start again from the beginning!
Very glad you liked!

Threw in some guitar solos
Yeah, that was nice of you just to piece this together so casually!

Crunchy twangy glam guitars, kinda Byrdsied, kinda Sladed, kinda Replacemented, kinda Johnny Thundered... You have a style all your own.

Your vocals are probably what Lord Byron was thinking when he penned the rock n roll lyric.

Great guitar
and a brilliant vocal. Modern hip style I could hear this on any radio station. Foot stomping, there is a slight attitude in the vocal that gives this an edge.

She walks in poetry.
Great song. The guitars overpower the vocals slightly. But everything is clearly very well played/sung and recorded.

Great painting
It was in the Met in NY for a while I got to see it, this song really grooves and moves along to the lyrics, Some excellent guitar playing in this, like the breakdown where the bass comes in greatness!
