enchanting...
...perfect summer's eve music; something so clean and fresh about this style of music--I think it's unique in that way. Well done Bill (and since I'm making forays into this racket, if it's not too much trouble, could you kind of give me an idea how you created this--what went into it, etc? Just a light description; I'm very curious about these things just now-- thank you! And thanks for sharing this (looks like you got your crickets!) Michael

.
first i worked out the guitar part on a real guitar. next i transcribed that note by note into GarageBand. that gave me the basis to derive the strings and recorder parts by copying and pasting and moving notes around. during that process, another chord progression came up at the end and a brief guitar line to lead in to something else. then i got blocked for a week or so. what i had at that point can be heard from 1:02 to 2:24

sometimes i can break a creative block by refining what i already have and hope inspiration strikes. so i split the strings track into separate tracks for violin1, violin2, viola, cello, and bass. i was still undecided at that point whether record real guitar or not. the guitar synth i was using sounded really fake during repeated notes (like around 0:30). i solved that by using Spicy Guitar (see the forum "M2's freebie finds")

no inspiration arose for more material, so i continued to arrange instead. i made three copies of everything. for the first part i deleted everything but the guitar, for the second part i left everything in, for the third i moved the strings to recorders. for whatever reason i have had crickets on my mind lately so that was added at the very end of the process. (i could go on about the title and song pic, but this is getting a bit long already...)

thanks for asking! glad you enjoyed my tune

Thanks Bill!
I really appreciated the time you took to break that down for me--it really helps me understand the creative process using the GarageBand software--I never thought of actually writing the music into what I have so that was illuminating and gives me some ideas along with some other things you've kindly shared. You take care now! Michael

This is beautiful. Very well written and the arrangement is quite nice. The inclusion of the crickets adds great ambience.

beautiful!
this is a charming piece -- the opening lines are great! I'm into all sorts of ostinatos these days, so there is a lot to like in this opening section.

I'm a sucker
for the sound of crickets except when I'm trying to sleep. You made an enchanting piece of music. Thanks.

Ah - so you decided
to create your own night sounds. Very nice. Wow - it just blossomed into this beautiful thing. I'm impressed Bill - this is major soundtrack calibre. I love how the guitar sounds like a harpsichord as well. Great arrangement.

Is this a tribute to
all those seemingly departed crickets from your back garden ? I have to say that from the title I half expected a pun on Parker,Lady Penelope and some fretless instrument with a Thunderbird theme..........but I think that says more about me and my problems than anything else ! This is really very pleasant and charming ,especially to wake up to in the
middle of the day .Loverly....I'll put it in the store cupboard.
