More Than One Kiss (featuring Tempie)

Description
Some time ago myself and Craig Thomas (tempie) discussed doing a cover version of Uncle Tupelo's "Give Back The Key To My Heart" but sadly lots of punky Dynamite Van Pipe songs got in the way. since then we've been pretty busy with our own songs, however I passed this over to Craig intending for him to add genuine Southern backups to it. In true Tempie style he ended up totally nailing the verses and so I've dropped my vox from the first verse, giving him lead billing. As a result we've ended up with a bit of a Jeff 'n' Jay alt-country tune with us both taking a verse as lead singer.
Overall I'm pleased with this for a number of reasons, my fist foray into 3/4 time, some nice guitar tones and a set of lyrics I think stand quite well in the genre. Not bad for an Irishman.
Weep into your beer and find comfort in someone way too old for those hotpants ... More Than One Kiss

Lyrics
There's an old motel on the 44 highway
Where fly bitten nights cost a dime and twenty
I lost my guitar on the 9:30 Greyhound
But you whispered soft as I leant on the bar

"hold back them tears" you said with a smile
"there's more than one kiss tonight for a while"
You led me to paradise
On strangers past sweat
And just for a moment
I wasn't there

There's honey a plenty when you give em flowers
And snappin high heels on a hardwood floor
But when the rain wrecks the show
You gotta take what you get
In a whiskey daze evenin in a town called Regret

Too many times
I found numbers for phones
That I never call

More than one kiss, tonight, for a while ...

More Than One Kiss (featuring Tempie)
There's an early REM vibe to this. They sure knew how to draw from british rock and American country to create something original. I think you guys are swimming in similar waters here and to great effect!

C&W/Punk?
Sounds like it could have been recorded live in some small club. The drum track sounds great for EZ drummer. But it all sounds a bit hot to me, especially for the genre - lots of good ole country clipping :) I reckon a re-mix would sort the problems out pretty quick smart. Cool song though.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

You guys naied this one to the barn door
really excellent cow punker in the trad of The Mekons and Camper Van Beethoven along with the alt boys you mentioned in your description. The mix sounds great and the instrumentation just shines. The traded vocal was a good idea too.

More Than One Kiss
I like the detail in the lyric "44 highway, Greyhound, town called regret". "More then one kiss" is a good hook. For my ears, the snare is dominating the mix a little too much.

Now this...
...I only spent a little time in the south during my Navy years way back when, but this reminded me so much of the music I'd hear at various venues; I actually grew quite fond of this style of music and you guys sound like you've been doing it for years. Well done! Michael

Very cool alt-Country atmosphere. Really nicely written tune, Paddy. Filled with some cool images. Both vocals strong. Guitars and banjar work well. I can see couples waltzing to this!

Twelfth!
(Man, that's a crazy word that I don't use enough)

Hey guys, this is a pretty decent little number. Good choice to let Craig have his way with the opening verse. He really delivers.

Paddy, did you do all that fancy fiddlin' and banjo? Really sounds good, kinda like that famous Transcontinentals tune "Ocracoke".

I hope you guys continue to develop these alt country songs because you do a fine job with them.

snapping high heels
neat song guys. Well written, really like the bridge.
the accordion-like sound is cool for the solo.
great singing too.
It reminded me for a moment of "hold back the tears" which is one of my favourite obscure Neil Young songs.
enjoyed it!

Boom clap clap
The main part of this song works quite well, but the drum is a tad hamfisted, certainly in the beginning. The song reminds me a little of The Band. I'm sure they've done a 3/4 time somewhere. Now I need to see how they do the drums.
