Acoustic Therapy

Description
Let's just say that after nearly 7 weeks of hardly playing the guitar, my fingers, brain, fingertips and all musical sense seemed to have deserted me. In hospital I listened to one of the hundreds of "essential acoustic riffs" that abound there and I liked this descending 6th's call/response resolution. So in the last couple of days when I have been out of hospital (again) I used it to create a short instrumental piece to try and start getting back into some form. One take - but lots of absolute stuff-ups before I even got close. Hopefully it is just a primer for a few songs that I have in the pipeline.

Feel free to do with it as you will :-)

Thanks, as always, for your support.

Peter

First!
Like the way this rolls along. Lovely ringing tones around the 1 minute mark. Not so sure about the tapping (is that your foot?). Can certainly see a song developing from this - there's a beautiful melody waiting to go on top of this. I think you're getting back into form!

Brain to fingers! Can you hear me?
Thanks Philip. It was more an exercise in just getting my fingers to try and do what my brain was telling them - and obviously there is still some way to go. The tapping is me lightly tapping the bridge of the guitar to establish a beat. Just thought it needed a percussive lift... Talk soon, Peter.

Hey Peter ... sweet melody ... I like the foot tapping. It gives a live feel to the recording. Nothing like a good open tuning to start my day. Pick on!
Cheers!!

Thanks...
Hi Stan. Thanks for dropping by. Happy just to be able to start picking up the pieces (and the guitar) :-)
I just need to start putting in some serious practice to try and get some chops back. It is amazing how quickly you can lose form when you don't play, especially finger toughness on steel strings. Glad you like this short interlude. Regards, Peter.

Great to be back at MJ
Hi JD. Great to be back at MJ and posting something. Although I never really went away (in a sense) I have missed an awful loot of listening in the last month or so and it is almost impossible to play catchup. Thanks for your support and friendship. Glad you enjoyed this short piece. Regards, Peter.

Confidence booster...
Hi Andrew. Thanks, as always, for your support. Hopefully I am at a stage in the recovery process where I can get back to some sort of normalcy and make the time to record and listen to the great music on offer at MJ. This short piece is just a confidence booster really. I needed to get something out there to prove to myself that I could get back on the horse. Take care, Peter.

This is gorgeous, Peter. Works as solo piece or could be embellished with another guitar and/or vocal. Cool changes, and very nice percussive picking. I like the bridge tapping. You haven't lost a thing, buddy. Hope to hear more as you get your strength back.

Appreciative...
Thanks for the vote of confidence, John. Not sure how/if I might develop this further. Just wanted to try and get my fingers moving again and try and get some conditioning back. There are some nice percussive sounds to be had from an acoustic. I am going to explore them more in some later piececs. Take care, Peter.

Playing back into form...

Theraputic
Sweet tone from the guitar. I like the variations in this and how you've chained the sections together. It would make a great backing for the right song but it works for me as an instrumental.

A nice warm up piece...
Hi Steve. Thanks for your kind comments. The initial riff is just my variation of one I found on the net and the progression just seemed to flow nicely from it. I will think about developing it further but the real challenge lay in starting to get my fingers to be in sync with my brain again :-) Take care, Peter.

Just scratching the surface...
Hi Dave. Yes, that is why I love the guitar so much as an instrument. There are so many subtle effects you can wring out of it to embellish a tune. I am only just scratching the surface after playing for most of my life. Thanks for your support. Regards, Peter.

Therapeutic...
Hi Jay. I like these little instrumental, warm-up (show off :-)) pieces. They showcase what an acoustic guitar can do and display the different tones and moods that you can get from the instrument. Certainly I felt a lot better once I finally got my fingers to do most of what my brain was envisaging. As therapy, you can'y beat it. Take care, Peter.

Enjoy!
Hi J. Enjoy the new guitar. It is always exciting to get a new instrument. The Australian-made Maton that I played on this piece I bought in 1982 and it gets better every year. Good guitars just seem to become part of you. Glad you enjoyed the piece. I was so rusty after the enforced lay-off that I got quite frustrated for the first day or two but gradually things started to fall back into place. Take care, Peter.

It's raining guitars...
Hi Neil. Thanks for finding time to have a listen. I appreciate your support. Glad you liked it. Haven't really spent the time I would like with Summer Rain but I really like where it has gone as an instrumental with Stan, et. al. Might just let things simmer and hope some lyrics/melody surface over the next few weeks and take it in a slightly different direction again. Take care, Peter.

Thanks Daug. And thanks for your support re my health. Still a bit in limbo but heading in the right direction. I have been pretty motivated to get back on the guitar though and have developed a number of nice chord progressions and picked parts that seem like they could be the basis of songs. Vocals are a bit of an issue at the moment though. I think I need to put as much time into practicing them as well. Take care, Peter.

Sounds like the brain and fingers are working pretty fair.
.. but, I can also hear where some things aren't landing where you want them to.
As far as the foot tapping, don't worry. It's very traditional in the Southern / Midwest Americana to the point where I've seen guitarist with special boards for that very purpose. You just need to learn how to do it in silver high heels :-)

Leopard skin
Thanks for checking out some of my earlier work, David. I'd just been in hospital for almost two months following a kidney transplant and was desperate to get back to the guitars. I also didn't really know all that much about recording acoustic guitars here... I might re-do it one day and record it properly. And of course I need some leopard skin pants and tambourine on my high heels to truly look authentic :-) Classic. Regards, Peter.
