I TAUT I TAW A PUDDY TAT!

Description
Another entry in this month's program of "That Boy Must be on Crack or Something Even Stronger Lately" music. This tune has been recorded by the great Mel Blanc (who originated those wonderful voices) and the equally talented Danny Kaye. I tried my best without resorting to the famous "munchkin filter" and hope the kids will like this.

Written by Alan Livingston and Billy May (surprisingly)
Arrangement: London Arrangements
(In public domain as are many Warner Bros. songs from this period)

was a sneaky birdy, if I ever saw one. Poor Sylvester. He always got hurt. Nice job, Michael. I enjoyed it. Thank you.

Apprezzato!
Sono felice che avete goduto di questa avventuretta--oops, wait a minute--got carried away there (hey somebody has to carry me, I'm that lazy, yanno?) Thanks again Char--I understand those two distinguished British actors, the late Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, best known for their horror movie roles, were quite fond when they got together of doing impressions of these cartoon characters (I can only imagine what that was like!) You take care now, Michael

Thank you Dick!
I was quite shocked to realize Alan Livingston wrote the lyrics (usually with Ray Evans--this team produced a larger number of popular songs for motion pictures) but then, when you realize this is a song that was designed to teach youngsters how to get along, and in that way, it is very well written). Billy May, who wrote the music was one of the great swing arrangers of the 30s and 40 and beyond--quite a teaming! Glad you could listen and for the kind words Dick, and I hope you had a very fine birthday. Take care now! Michael

Puddy tat
Mel Blanc - the voice of Bugs Bunny, who was allergic to carrots I believe. Weird.
Cracking voice work and excellent japery! Suffering sucatash indeed. I've never heard this before, despite having watched more Sylvester and Tweetie cartoons than you'd ever imagine. Really enjoyed Michael.

Mel Blanc
Stephen that guy not only was a genius at voice characterizations, as you know, he was also quite funny in his own right (and that face of his didn't hurt either in the comedy line). I understand Tony Blair had the sheet music of this song open on his piano during the entire time of the Iraq war. As for Stephen Fry's recounting of Lee and Cushing and their antics--I'm going to try to find it now (yanno, I loved those guys as a kid--my 3rd grade teacher once asked the class what they wanted to be when they grew up. Out of 29 future doctors, firemen, policemen and firemen, I was the only bozo that proudly proclaimed, "I wanna be a horror movie actor like Peter Cushing." I could tell, even at that tender age, that I had momentarily stunned our teacher back into a state of semi-consciousness). Thanks again mate--you take good care now! Michael

I did! I did see a puddy tat!
Hey Michael! This is so fun. I have a soft spot for Mel. He was a talented man. Not only did he perform most of the characters voices he also sang. Loony tunes were the best and I get a comfort in listening to this. Thanks for this great performance!

Hey Stan!
I loved him too--whether doing the voices or doing comedy with Jack Benny--he was a genius in his own right I feel (so was Danny Kaye, who did this song too as I mentioned above). I really had a work out on this (yanno, I make a big deal of diction when I sing--try dotting the i's and crossing the t's when you are doing Sylvester--whew!) The sick thing was, the longer I sang this the more I was getting into those characters--very dangerous work Stan! Say, thanks as always for your support and encouragement and of course, looking forward to what you have coming up next in your cannon of great work--take care now! Michael

You kill me!
"I was just going to do this one"! That was perhaps the ONLY genuine laugh I've had this entire day--thanks so much Andy! I think Tweetie and Sylvester, while outwardly adversaries, perhaps had some common goals worthy enough for them to somehow manage dealing with each other in obtaining, very true chief! Thanks again--you take care now, Michael

Yeah, I agree! I have a nice boxed set of various Looney Tune shorts and they are always good for a bad day (I'm a huge fan of Daffy Duck--relate very strongly to Daffy and--I think everybody's favorite--Roadrunner and Wiley Coyote (always loved when he went over a cliff, became invisible as he fell and then a few seconds later, from below, a puff of dust and "POOF"!) You take care now and thanks again, Michael

Dear Tweety Pie
There are some unfortunate and inalienable truths in life and particular in animal life.It is that there are some animals who have the job description,as Mr T Pratchett would put it,of being a brief damp squeak. This I fear is the lot that nature has intended for you.....so get over it okay !?

Super fun and the voice charachterisations well they aint half bad eehter !!

What would gwanny say?
Great vocal characterisations and lyrical expression here Michael. You impart a great sense of fun mixed with your obvious talent for interpreting songs (I always find the most talented performers make it seem easy, like ANYONE could do it.)

The ending kind of wraps it up nicely - "That's all folks!"

Ho Dere Doug!
You are much too kind, although I must concede, this tune was a bit of a challenge (I'd never done those two voices in my life up until I sat down with this thing!) so your words about "making it seem easy"--that's an extremely appreciated remark. Thanks again and take good care now, Michael

Very amusing, and with all your usual production values. A great entertainment!
michaeljayklein said 2090 days ago (September 2nd, 2011)
Thanks Phillip!
I'm sure Sylvester had even more aphorisms, but to be quite honest, I have only a passing knowledge of that particular cartoon--certainly he must have had another line other than "Suffering Succotash"! Then again, maybe not! Thanks so much for listening in on this and appreciated the supportive review! You take care now--Michael

Hi Dave
Glad you liked this romp--yeah, I can do some mighty strange things with my voice (well, you've heard me sing already so have a good accounting of that claim!) Hahahahahahaha...yanno, I attempted one Saturday morning to relive the old days--there was not a SINGLE cartoon on the TV--all 800 channels, nothing! We were so lucky....
