Description
Though I do not consider myself a Muslim I continue to observe the Holy month of Ramadan. During that time I made a lot of music. I recorded a lot and this is the first track that I made at that time.

Lyrics
Life is a funny thing
So I try to keep a smile on my face till I'm done with the bloody thing
Even though I may have come up broke
I've always had an abundance of love and hope
This is love I wrote
The words from my throat is an invite that enemies would love to choke
If I die by the hands of these heartless souls
That designed them a means to tear apart my goals
Then reluctantly I lay these burdens on you
Though the quest just may spell closed curtains for you
The future is uncertain to you
Its uncertain to me
I'm in the dark, eyes hurting to see
Spend my lifetime working to be
Better than I was
Every day man just because
I have eyes on me
And if I influence then its wise of me
To push on
I won't stop this
Or live a life that's monotonous
Just because this mainstream rap is toxic
They would rather see me stacking shelves and boxes
Instead of on the world stage ready to rock this
I've seen Hiphop go from conscious flow
To a monster show
Taking it to a place I don't want to go
But I keep track to see the end, I want to know
Was I right to resist and to not be a quitter
Am I just an old head being angry and bitter
Sometimes I feel I'm just not fit for this world
Or worthy to take any gift from this world
The rain can give life or can cause a flood
Every Cain has an Able, thats the laws of blood
Our leaders claim they're all above
But they all are thugs
We're in the grave that they all have dug
You can lie there and let them throw dirt in your face
Or crawl out the ground and take your rightful place
You're as much a part of God as the next man is
And have a right to the life that the next man lives
Dont let them tell you paradise is made for the few
Or to force religous doctrine and a lable to you
Or tell you what your'e able to do
Go beyond just the sum of your parts
Just as Hiphop is more than the sum of the arts

That's what it is....
Right there...... You writing some heavy stuff, the powers that be don't
want you to say this, cause then they can't get away with the crap they
are pull off.....
Take your rightful place at the table, and eat your fill my Man... This is what the world needs to hear, cause that generic garbage they've been feeding us we might as well be dogs or cats....
All the history, all the education, all the stories handed down from generation to generation, we've learned nothing and now they are trying to hide it from the next generation.....

NEVER STOP SPEAKING YOUR MIND....... PEACE.........

Thanks. The bells and keys were actually chords I was messing around with using the piano and decided to go with a different sound. I'm glad it came out decent and glad you liked it.

oh man mitchell - this is astounding! i absolutely love how this builds so thoughtfully and artfully. you have opened my ears to hip hop - at least spitlogic's kind of hip hop, which is always so well considered and uplifting. i love this - it literally gave me goose bumps - SO D'L'ed - (and thanks for that!)

till i'm done with the bloody thing
love those two beginning lines. cool stuff, lots of unexpected sounds, really like the bells and what sounds like xylophone - and the horns. your rhyming isn't complex, but it's honest and it works in an old school, direct way. thanks for the dl.

I tend to do a lot of abrupt endings to my songs. I think the suddenness of finality and leaving someone hanging on a song is brilliant work. Thanks for the listen.

Observing
For the most part, I am not a rap listener. But I've enjoyed almost every one of your offerings here. The instrument choices here sound a bit like a demo, not as polished as some of your tracks. But maybe that adds to the home made feel of it all, which is a very nice vibe.

Instruments
I wanted to go for something dramatic with a very transparent backing. At first I tried to use a like of live instruments on the Midi and then decided to just make it electronic. In between the transition i kept some and left others.

Thanks for the time to listen and comment.

To be nobody but myself...
I hear you:

"To be nobody but myself, in a world which is doing its best night and day to make me everybody else, means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting." ~E.E.Cummings

That's been on my mind. And I took that away from your song.

Great job. Did you consider breaking the rap section up and incorporating some of the colors that are in the outro into the break or breaks? Maybe you need to have it be one cohesive non-stop rap, but it's just a thought I had that you might be able to break it up some how. Ultimately it's up to you as the artist, of course.
