Lyrics
Coal miner’s work in a hole in the ground
Disasters happen and some can’t be found
Lungs are blackened supporting their families
Giving this nation one source of energy

Blue collar workers keep our nation alive
With inflation rising makes it hard to survive
Working for peanuts it’s a test of there will
No appreciation for their knowledge and skill

(Chorus)
Raise a glass celebrate America
Raise a glass celebrate America

We stand for freedom though sometimes we slip
Into the darkness history’s full of it
Our act of kindness is surpassed by none
Our might if shown will make them run
(Chorus)
Raise a glass celebrate America
Raise a glass celebrate America
solo

American Farmers drench in sweat to make a buck
It’s a whole lot of work with a little bit of luck
Sun up till sundown work their fingers to the bone
To make just enough so they wont lose their home

911 put a hole in her heart
But she kept going being brave was her part
The years have passed but we remember it still
Though torn and tattered they can’t break our will
(Chorus 2x)
Short solo

Raise a glass
Acoustic sounds great. So do your vocals. It's a familiar kind of melody, but it's the right kind for this tribute. The flute (?) sound is quite nice. The solo guitars are fantastic with the harmonies. Really good arrangement. Not really prog but what the hell, eh? Very enjoyable, with a good message. Cool, but scary ending. Excellent production quality.

Raised
Yes, raise that glass. Love all the guitar sounds and the keyboard swirls are great contrast. The arrangement kept my focus. Lyrics tell the story nicely.

has an updated Steven Stills vibe that supports the lyrics and emotional weight. Great guitar soloing. All around this an excellent tune.

Dumbfounded ...
It is, indeed, a very good tribute-song that ought to receive some serious radio airplay. (Who knows, it might go viral ... remember us.)

The final bit ... the lonesome air-raid siren ... :-O ... good grief, I think you just gave me nightmares.

I have used this term before:   arrested.   Frozen in my tracks.   Dumbfounded.   Stunned.

Good song - well played and produced. Has a somber toner and feel to it. That ending is downright eerie! Thank you for posting - enjoyed!

Nice tribute
Terry, I'm really enjoying your vocals on this. They are spot on. And your mix sounds great. Great chops, I love the double lead and the way the song builds. Nice phrasing throughout. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Terry.....
This is a brilliant song. The lilt reminded me of Harry Chafin? but was refreshingly different and the singing and arrangement/playing was second to none.

Really enjoyed this. I'm glad that Mark pointed the song out to everyone.

Take care.

Sound
Good sounding song.

I wish I could say the same thing about the lyrics. "We stand for freedom". Does that include Guantanamo where people are preventively incarcerated without a shred of evidence? Japanese internment camps during WWII? What freedom? Airport personel that is free to grope you? How free are you feeling these days? Wanna try taking pictures of a military base?

He posted the lyric on the last version. It goes:

"We stand for freedom though sometimes we slip
Into the darkness history’s full of it"

It seems to me that the writer of this lyric is fully aware that there have been times in American history where we have paid lip service only to the notion of freedom while in practice doing something quite different.

Dedication
Thank you very much for the dedication. So many to thank, for sure. Humbling. As an American, I draw from a long line of freedom seekers. As a neighbor, I connect to a heritage of self-responsibility and communal awareness, the combination Jefferson simply called "citizenship." As a surviver, I am inspired by the ghosts all around, making my life worth the meaning of deaths, of dreams I have tried not to forget.

The track has a unique feel for this sort of song, this sort of anthem. There is a darkness, and moodiness, a brooding. The strength is in something more quiet, an unstated determination. Just that conceptual angle makes me listen to the lyrics in a special way. In the world where politicians and governments continue to disappoint and even betray, the sense of what is worthy of perseverance is something internal, although intimately shared in a sense of brother/sisterhood that transcends the cynicism that VicDiesel (above) alluded to. If I learned anything from the experience of 9/11 and the brotherhood that has developed to those who worked with me, it is the power of perfect human action. We are angels. Heaven is within. It is true. No need for belief. I was there.

I raise my glass to you. To everyone who refuses to break.

Why in the hell didn't this go number-one somewhere?
I guess I just don’t understand the music business, after all.   Why didn’t this song go “number one” somewhere?   This should have “mainstream charted” and kept right on going.   Maybe it still could.   The ending still gives me cold shivers.
