Lightyears Away (A Drivetime Ambient Mix)

This is a new blast from the past. I used to do Drivetime mixes and this is in the same vein, but somehow bigger. I thought cinematic hence the genre this time.

It's loud, so be prepared. Stick the old toy steering wheel to the coffee table and crank up the old hi-fi and you're off......

Lightyears Away
One of your best ! Stunning flowing development and unfolding starry texture ! Lightyears away condensed in impending nearness :)

Hi Harald......
I'm glad you liked this one. It is a bit different and a lot louder than most of my stuff but boy did it need the volume. I seem to put one of these together every little while.

I think your 'Lightyears away condensed in impending nearness :)' speaks volumes.

Take care.

Hi Henke.....
I had fun mixing this one. It just seemed to sort of flow into a full mix as I progressed with the instrument choice. I would have liked less white noise at times but that may come in another Drivetime mix.

Take care.

Lightyears Away
I get a cold, dark and lonely feeling in this track. The dominant synth-sound washes over me like waves, nice!

I take it a "drivetime mix" is a mix used while traveling in your car/space ship?

Hi aRcTip.....
The waves can actually be seen if you look at a graphic representation of the mix. Undulating is not an exageration. Haha. You found the hidden message in the mix. The cold, dark and lonely is hopefully fading more in my new soundscapes. It's been with me for a while, almost like a coat. I don't wear it nearly as much now.

The drivetime I allude to is a type of mix I've done a couple of times before. They have transport-like titles or drivetime in the title. They raise their head in my mixes from time to time.

Thanks for stopping by.

Take care.

a cool almost palpable quality. Very effective Paul.

Hi Charlie.......
I tried something a little different but kept enough of the 'me' in there to keep things even.

The build-up and fade away, throughout, might give it this palpable quality.

Take care.

rarely drive these days, but commute rather a lot on local trains, which are generally packed to the rafters. I will put this on my "Merseyrail" playlist I think! I like to listen to music like this when travelling from a to b. (Well, I like to listen to any music really!) But especially mixes that I know are unavailable to the majority. Great for blotting out the mobile phone fascists!

Very cool Paul, washes over you indeed and I hear a sci-fi soundtrack. I think a deep bass pulse sound would have been good to add too.

Hi Dave.....
You're right about the bass pulse. I added drums to get some sort of repetative beat but bass would have worked as well if not better. My hearing range steers me away from bass sounds to more middle or high instruments. Will give this another whorl but with bass instead of (or with) drum.

We have to beat the mobile phone fascists!!! To put it my particular way 'They do my nut in!!' or words to that effect.

Take care in the carriages of life...

A great drift!
Minds eye: Waves of energy washing up on the cosmic shores of some ionic gas giant from some nearby star that went nova.

Brilliant work, this piece though somewhat different, still has that Reinholtium style. Good job, much enjoyed!

Hi Patty.....
This piece is a bit different but follows on from an earlier occasional series. In other words it's a theme I return to from time to time. It just seemed the right way to go with the mix I was working on at the time.

I like your ideas about the piece. Seems like a great way to listen to the piece, in the safe zone, a few light years from the nova.

Take care.
