I would most definitely say so!
And thanks for reposting it or I'd never have gotten my chance to comment later! Very Herrmannesque in the central theme (I'm on a Bernard Herrmann kick this week, but that has nothing to do with my hearing a bit of his influence in this). Very gripping and loved how very deftly you changed the key in an unexpected place to keep this even more exciting. Excellent work and I think you are one of the VERY best we have here in this category of music. Thanks again Charlie!

Benny Herrmann
wasn't the sweetest guy in the room but he sure had a unique sound that I always find compelling.
In some ways he was a early minimalist.
Very kind of you Michael.
Thank you my friend,
Charlie

Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained
What a compelling piece this is! Some of the dissonance in the strings at certain points, while barely noticeable, is tremendously effective. After reading MJK's comment, I had my ears perked for that key change, and there it was! Really cool and entirely appropos for the piece. There really was something thrilling about this song; much enjoyed.

Great!
Did you make this using Logic instruments? It's very powerful and I too liked the "unexpected" key change. Nothing wrong with a bit of appropriately placed dissonance, imo!

Good stuff anyway and yes, to answer your own question, well worth it.

Most
of the instruments are modified East West Silver and Miroslav Philharmonik. Thanks davajonah I too like a bit of dissonance. It's good for the soul.
Cheers.

Hi Charlie.....
The risk, in this case, was well worth it. I enjoyed the listen from the getgo. The orchestration was very interesting and the choice of instruments worked together very, very well.

This seems different, from a production point of view, from earlier works. Gripping would be the single word I would use if asked to describe this piece.

The mix would sit well with a film.

Take care.

It's not - can I say beautiful? as some other works I've posted but I think it's still worth a listen.
Thanks my friend.

A very enjoyable piece, Charles. You've done a great job creating tension in this piece, and I like how it kind of plods along (your image works great with the music). Thanks for posting.

I'd even say
"no pain no gain". And I can hear you put A LOT of efforts in this. I like all your works Charles, but I'd say, this one is probably my top favorite I could hear so far. Haunting, wonderful work.

This is a lot of work!
You have lots going on as you contrast between the ostenato in the violas ? and the violins playing peek-a-boo with the woodwinds. The detailed parts that come and go, the legato segments that layer over the individual sound bursts and phrases represent a dense field of aural stimulation that certainly keeps my interest throughout. You have retained the sense that there is an inevitability about the world which I hear in so many of your pieces. It strikes me as a description of fate - that which will happen has already been written and that the listener is coming along for the ride to unfold whatever doom is in store for them.

Another good one Charlie.

Take care,
Doug

IT IS WRITTEN
Was once said to T. E. Lawrence (at least in the film LAWRENCE OF ARABIA).

He of course vehemently objected and said, "NOTHING IS WRITTEN!"
He was proven wrong.
Thanks Doug.

It really
does have a very full sound with lots going on between the instruments.... it has a steady feeling of going forward and it only occurred to me towards the end that it's in waltz time, so..... 'Risk'; could t be the dance of death hypnotically drawing us in? I think the answer might be in the art work LOL..... great work Charles as always, regards M

I find
the art both humorous yet ominous. It along with a title often influences my feelings about a piece but I think in this case it's a bit more.

Just pick the right partner to dance with Maurice.

Charlie

This piece seems to me more like a film scoring genre. Next to using classical instruments this has very strong story feel behind the music. You did not put much instrumenal variety and changes in it but yet it has very dunamic and dramatical flow which draws the listeners attention in. To me the most interesting parts are where you start bulding different key harmonies which is really well done here and brings the whole thing into a new level. Great job and thanks!

I find listening to this inspiring. It feels grand, strong and tense and very visual ... I can only comment on how it makes me feel as this is beyond my musical knowledge. A wonderful listen! And I like the artwork.

No, never...
A very nice compositional piece. A constant buildup to the inevitable climax, which in this piece never happens-so it leaves you with the question "do we still have a chance?". A good metaphor on how the human race is preparing for mass destruction.

Provocative piece-well done!
