Excellent!
Perfect tune for my rainy sunday! Everything is so great and well put-together. I just really kept wanting more from the beat. Its very 'un' downtempo and almost disco/pop sounding... I think a sharper electro-pop style beat would make all the difference on this track. :)

Thanks for commenting! Yeah, I do have problems finding the right category to place songs in here. Yes, I've pondered on a different beat and will pick up that thought if/when I make a remix.

Yes.
I have to agree. The drums need some work. Pump it up! Up the kick! Vary it a bit! How about some crashes? The synths/bass are brilliant, but the percussion could do with some tweaking methinks. I like the break at 2.50, but I think you need a full on trance/house hit to bring it all back in. Really nice though.

Dava
Thanks for commenting Dave. Agree, the use of drum loops constrains me a bit, and I have to learn to break free from them. There's a couple of crashes very low in the mix there ;) I experimented with a house-beat but I felt it removed the chillout-vibe I tried to achieve. As I mentioned above, I will probably try to remix this later on with my own drums.

It is chill.
I was singing along with it: Where does this road end? Where do I go? How much will I spend? When will I know? I liked it as it was but I'm not ever looking for what might be missing or improved upon, but just if I was engaged. And I was, totally. Thanks.

well, i don't know squat about this genre of music so i can't comment about the feedback you're getting re: percussion tweaking, although you're certainly hearing from people who DO know. i just can say that i enjoyed this enough to D/L - and thanks for that!

Hi aRcTip.......
This is really good. I like everything about it but most of all the soaring synth lead. I love music in this format. Took me back to an earlier time in my life. A good time. The music made me feel good. I will be listening to this lots more in the near future.

I don't think that the drums need to be changed. Just the driver, in the illustration, needs to get out of the passenger seat, or is this the mirror image of him driving down the interstate?

Did I say I liked this piece....

Take care.

Your comment made my day, thanks Paul!

As for the driver, I think they'll settle for right-hand traffic in space for the sake of sanity and saftey (as well as the metric system ;)

The more
I hear synths, the more I love the sounds and moods they can evoke and this one has a real mix of feelings in there; it's as though we're listening to someone's subconscious mind. Maybe it should be called 'Inner-State' LOL. I really like that percussion here (wish I had that loop ). For all it sounds busy, it also has a dreamy quality, excellent, regards M

I don't know, I kinda like the understated drums. It's reminiscent of the cosmic interstate of the past, not the future. You know, back when you used to wave to someone while passing through NGC1316 and they'd actually wave back. Nowadays with warp drives the way they are, everyone just seems to be in such a hurry.

I love the bass/lead combo, and the break is a nice touch. I really enjoyed the piece. Thanks for posting.

"tweeking" can be a never ending process ... but must say this stands as is. Cool track. Must say parts of it reminded me of Townshend's "Iron Man"

Never ending process
Indeed. In this case I came to a point where I had to let go. I spent (in my opinion) an insane amount of time mixing and tweaking this track. So much I must let it rest now for a while. And one would think it would be the other way around as you get more experience, but it seems to be the other way around for me.

Thanks for comment. Any track in particular in Iron Man you can point me at?

on the couch
i was liking it fine and then the drums kicked in and the mood/groove changed and i thought 'oh, yeah that's alright' and so then i was riding along liking it fine again and then the synth lead kicked in and i thought 'oh, yeah that's alright' and so then i was riding along liking it fine and well you get the idea...really like the way the foot comes off the gas for a moment toward the end. very cool sounds, arranged well. I really tried to find something i'd change but everytime i thought i had an idea to improve it a change would come along and prove me wrong. so great tune man, i like the attention to detail, and thanks for the dl.

Downtempo fail ;-)
I think the music fits that person in the picture quite well, cool kind of 80's touch on a cosmic scale. A happy piece well worth a download I think.

I often have problems with percussive elements in my songs and knowing it can be tricky I do understand what Dj, Dave et al are talking about, some developments in that area could probably be nice, but on the other hand there's a lot of stuff going on. Try to turn your attention to other instruments etc if one sound is taking over. I got a comment on one of my songs to say my percussion does its job as a pace keeper. If nothing else, that's what it does here as well, I think.

At the end of the day, literally, I enjoyed this piece a lot, thanks :-)

Take care,
Henke

Very cosmic!
Ok, great beat, great synths.

Drum as such is fine, but should be a bit more upfront. Listen to that riff at 0:31: it almost drowns in the background.

My main problem with this track: at 0:54 you've had something that sounds like a pretty good intro, and then instead of a strong melodic hook (I'm a sucker for good hooks) you go to in chord spinning more until 1:30. After that there is the faintest hint of a melody synth, but it's not exactly playing something that I can whistle. The synth solos later are cool, but you can't really have a solo without first setting up a theme.

Vic
A friend pointed out in a similar fashion that the lead melody should have come sooner (while I intended to establish some bass groove instead), and it's a point taken.

Anyways, thanks a lot for input!

Works for me
I know what you mean about the drums, but the character of the tune would change (by decades) if you adjusted them to another sound. Which would be OK but would be like a different overall feel. This has a retro old school touch that is kind of nostalgic.

Really well put together!

i like
very much. parts of it almost remind me of Air (I had a really easy time singing a poppy melody over the top). I like the drum choices, could hear some variations on it (maybe different sounds or delays to mix things up at certain points). but this is great. sounds really full and bug too.

Space funk!
Solid beat, rich synth sounds. Love that little line that comes in at 1:30. You keep interest with just enough change to the basic structure. Especially like the swirls around 3:50. Much enjoyed!

chords!
i really like the flow of the chords - some of it very introspective, almost nostalgic in feel. the big bass that supports the chords is very cool...

thanks

in my humble opinion, i think the percussion is fine as is. if it were louder or busier it would detract from the mood (or transform it into some other song).

Intense atmosphere...
This is a fine groove, lots of motion and a solid pulse. It is chordally complex and delicious. Only been making music since Spring? Somehow, I find that a little bit hard to swallow, either that or you're both very talented and a fast learner. This is conceptually very advanced and very well executed.... Excellent job! :)
