Breakin' Barriers.

Description
This song came into being as a result of me buying a new synth with Arps (love 'em) as well as some good sounds, so it started of with the arp rhythm and some chords. I listened to Tony Blair talking about the Middle Eastern war and all the calls for Democracy there at this time. One expression he used seemed to stick in my mind when he said, rather outright than war he preferred 'Evolution to Revolution' and I thought that sounded good and wrote the lyrics around it. It fits in perfectly with what's going on in Lybia and Syria at this time. Hope you like it...... just a tad different than my last song, but...... they are the same chords and almost the same pattern, yet it's so different. Best through Headphones.

Lyrics
Breakin’ Barriers,

1.Somethin’s really happenin’, feel it in the air.
People breakin’ shackles, wantin’ what is fair.

Chorus.
Gotta start breakin’ barriers,
Sail along on brand new seas,
Evolution not revolution.
Will carry us along on the breeze.

2.We gotta keep goin’ forward, reachin’ for that goal,
The ‘Goal’ just has to be somethin’, that will satisfy the soul.

3.
Everybody wants freedom, everybody needs peace,
Only through people talkin’, will the warring ever cease.

Chorus.
Instrumental
Chorus.
4.
We gotta stop all the preachin’, tellin’ folk how to live,
We gotta’ stop all the takin’ and practice how to give,
5.
Yes we gotta keep goin’ forward, reachin’ for the goal,
And that goal has gotta’ to be somethin’, to satisfy the soul.

Chorus.
instrumental
Chorus
6
Yes we gotta keep goin’ forward, reachin’ for the goal,
And that goal has to be somethin’, to satisfy the soul.
Chorus.

Thank you
once again Sammy for calling in to listen my stuff; glad you liked this, but no I haven't been working out on the voice, unless you count a whole 3 mins on the Hospital treadmill (which is as long as i lasted because i couldn't get my breath LOL); that was the nearest I've come to a work out lately I'm afraid. Again, really pleased you approve, regards M

I like the lyrics and the driving guitar rhythm. Powerful message, well said! That modulating synth on the left really propels the song along. The lead synth sound also fits in really well.

I was
rather pleased myself, with how quickly the words fell into place for this song Andrew, so I'm glad you mentioned them along with the synths.... though my arm was nearly falling off as I played the guitar rhythm in the right speaker LOL, cheers M

Breakin' Barriers.
Strong lyrics and interesting vocals. I agree the synth panned left really moves it along. Great playing and a real nice mix on a very interesting melody. Sounds like you had some fun with the new synth. Really enjoyed this Maurice!

I did
have fun with this Stan and was tied as to whether I should harmonise or not. I even have the same version with a choir in the back and it sounds like i'm working with a cast of thousands. Always pleased to have your input on my songs, so thank you for calling in, regards M

So pleased
Karen when you approve of my playing capabilities (meagre though they might be) with the synth; nice too that you liked the message. Incidentally I'd love to hear you do something on a synth; bet you'd make it talk, regards M

Breakin' Barriers
This is an interesting format, the rhythmic guitar work along with cool synths! Breaking musical barriers too? I kind of wished for a longer instrumental part, but don't get me wrong, I love your voice. Makes me think of Satchmo sometimes. Really great part at 04:20!

Well aRctip
I'm so pleased if I broke any musical barriers for sure LOL. I wanted to do more instrumental with that solo synth, which has such a great sound; that's why I gave the song three instrumental parts instead of the customary one. Thank you for taking this song in and for commenting so favourably..... most appreciated, regards M

This is great Maurice. I love that you can adapt your voice to many different styles and aren't afraid to.

Really well done. Infectious backing and strong vocals and lyrics.

I'm having
to 'adapt' these days Dick; at one time this would have been full of falsetto ooooh's and ahhhhh's, but as you can hear they've almost deserted me now. Love your most welcome comment though about the vocals and backing, regards M

Oh brother this is one of my
favourites of yours, just pipping "shine your
light".I know it is a song about the Middle East and their woes and it's brilliant. But my minds ear can detecta nod towards a crescending trumpet playing over in a bleak plaintive manner that would catapult this right into gritty western drama theme as well. There is a hint of Ennio Morricone....sort of Ennio Mauricecone !!

Playing again the synth part could become the trumpet ,just more forward in the mix ....heck you get a twofer one out of this me old mucker.Great job.

dreary hamburgers
You might get a kick out of this, but I thought your first lyrics were "Sometime dreary hamburgers..." and I thought, wo, what are these dreary hamburgers going to do... like impressionistic They Might Be Giants storylines. So I backed it up and stopped multitasking and listened more closely.

I dig the epic Mexican boarder cowboy feel. But, for some reason, I kept wanting to know what happened to those sad hamburgers... Stopping off at the closest McDonald's has surely derailed many a revolution...

I like the the rolling lead, the whole feel. Nice ending. Cool track. Sorry for the idiotic digressions on my part.

Tobin,
Your wonderful digressions had me in fits of laughter ha ha 'Dreary hamburgers' indeed..... maybe that's a cue for a song; go to that piano at once.
Oh yes! I too can get that Mexican border cowboy lilt from this rhythm, so I get what you mean, but sorry, no burgers here, just some old ham trying to make music LOL. Thank you for calling in, regards M

I just re- listened and you're dead right. It DOES sound like 'Dreary Hamburgers'; woah! I'll never sleep tonight for tittering about that...... must have my teeth out and some new ones put in.......... can't stop laughing as the image of a limp sausage persists in my mind, Cheers, M

Barriers
I thought at first you were talking about you breaking the barriers of your song writing styles when the piece first started up. The driving quality from the rhythms you use helps lend an urgency to your richly resonant lyrics. Nice production job overall Maurice - how are you liking the camel synth?

Cheers,
Doug

Listening Doug, very much appreciated. Well I'm a real 'newby/ regarding the 'Camel Player' synth, which is so easy with those presets and all the great software sounds you can buy, This is my first song using it and I'm very pleased (as a real non key-boared player) with how the sounds came out, Cheers M

The gritty side of Maurice
This was unexpected. A touch of anger comes through on this one. Very interesting mix of latin influence, and grittiness. The vocal works very well, and the synth adds a nice depth to the song. Enjoyed it!
