Description
I've been working on this song for quite a while. Originally intended for the TAL Challenge, but a glitch in Dropbox kept losing all the associated files, so I gave up. Then I wrote some lyrics and started again. Again Dropbox was messing things up and all my vocals disappeared. After singing this about 25 times and losing my recordings each time, I realized that Dropbox had changed and I shouldn't leave my working files there. Tough lesson to learn, but I think I like the 25th version much better than the first attempt at singing. I added the bass parts and then some howling and some more vocals and just fooled around with the arrangement a bunch, like, over the course of a month or so. I never work on a song for that long. Never. The very last thing I did was this week was to add some percussion. I banged some stuff, used midi pieces, and hacked up some loops and slid everything off time to see what kind of mess I could make, then I added reverb and echo and then I went back and trimmed most of it off again. Then when I was looking on my home computer I found another PlasticMan.band file and I opened it up and it had these flutey parts that I had forgotten about, so I added those back to this mix last night and I was really happy, so I'm posting it. Don't bother asking me about the lyrics, I've already run out of room! Thanks for listening.

Lyrics
NOW IT CAME TO PASS
THAT ON THE SEVENTH DAY
OF THE SEVENTH MONTH
THE PLASTIC MAN CAME TO STAY

HE MADE HIS MAMA CRY
AT THE BEAUTY OF HIM
HE WAS BARELY A WEEK OLD
WHEN HE LEARNED HOW TO SWIM

AS THE DAYS WENT BY
HE AMAZED THE MASSES
(A CRIPPLED MAN WAS DANCING IN THE SAND)
HE STOOD FIRM ON THE FLOOR
WHILE THEY WERE BREAKING GLASSES
(THE SIMPLE MINDS CHASED HIM FROM THIS LAND)

AFTER THE 25TH HOUR
IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE DAY
HE RAISED HIS VOICE
AND MADE THE LOCUSTS FLY AWAY

PUT HIS HAND IN THE RIVER
WATCHED IT TURN TO BLOOD
PUT HIS HAND ON MY EYES
COVERED THEM WITH MUD

AS THE DAYS WENT BY
HE AMAZED THE MASSES
(HE KILLED A MAN WITH THE BACK OF HIS HAND)
HE STOOD FIRM ON THE FLOOR
WHILE THEY WERE BREAKING GLASSES
(AND A BEAUTIFUL DOVE IT LANDED DEAD ON THE SAND)

I FELT A WHIRL WIND WHIRL
TAKE AWAY MY BREATH
HEARD THE ECHO OF LAUGHTER
DISAPPEARING DEATH
AS THE DAYS WENT BY
HE AMAZED THE MASSES
(HE HEALED A MAN WITH THE WAVE OF HIS HAND)
HE STOOD FIRM ON THE FLOOR
WHILE THEY WERE BREAKING GLASSES
(AND A BEAUTIFUL DOVE ROSE FROM A HOLE IN THE SAND)

MasterCharged
After reading the lyrics, I just had to listen to this one.

Right from the start we are immersed in a Mecho/Techno/Roboto gel, in which only later to emerge asking ourselves......"who was that plastic man".

Devo would be quite pleased with this mecha-romp.

Mental Mario
Thanks King,

I always wait for your feedback, as it means so much to me. I believe that we (and very few others) share similar aesthetic values and I always kind of "unofficially" include you (plural) in my (singular) creative process, wondering if you'll approve? I don't want to post a song that will make you gag!

Thanks for the years of support and friendship.

A dove lays down on broadway
your music glides sneakily just under the sands of subconscious, pretending to be so simple... but soon you have your audience under your plastic godspell. so iconoclastic, so retro-refreshing, so 5EA, so infectiously cool. it requires great attention to detail to get something to be this cohesive. after so many days of toil with "oops I dropboxed it again", I declare this the seventh day, so you can rest.

ahooooo
dude this is off the charts great. the melodies are so good...vocals are perfect...and the little breaks...i mean it's the best thing i've heard from you musically. it's so interesting and eclectic and at the same time 100% accessible pop. i'm not generally gushy but damn this is brian wilsonesque. i mean really, it's as good as anything he's done. i listened to it about 10 times before writing that because i wanted to be sure but it's true. sadly. i'm so jealous dude. i was feeling pretty good about myself this morning too. thanks for nothing.

What an afternoon I'm having!
This is my 5th song in the past hour or so, and they've all been brilliant! This is just superb. I hear Tempie's Brian Wilson reference and I also hear a healthy dose of Blur in the vocals (a weird, but very good combination). This is so far away from anything I might think of writing, and I really like it for that reason alone. It's also just a clever, well written, well produced and well played track. Congratulations!

Whoa
Great to hear something from the robocircus snuff film arcade. The lyrics are so wild. Reminds me of how John Lennon wrote the lyrics to "I Am the Walrus" to to cheese off arty types. I want to say this is an allegory for the human condition, but it's really just giving everyone virtual bulges... in an arty way. I'm impressed with the production. Chaos with deliberate structure. Very musical, but you're flirting with the line. Well done.
