Description
After a really long dry spell I'm back with a little powerpop ditty. I've been wanting to do a song with a girl's name as the title for ever and a day so that was my start point. As usual my lyrics probably aren't up to scratch, they really only needed to sit round the "Oh Rosalie" refrain. I've tried to tone the guitars down a little and give the vox the front of stage.
Who is Rosalie, well she's painted up in shame for sure but we don't know why. I guess us guys are always mourning what was, what wasn't and what will never be.
The filtered guitar at the start was mean to be an homage to John Squire but it ended up sounding much different to how I imagined - still, I like it.
Please don't mention Cheap Trick ....

Lyrics
Broken histories
Surround your every move
Like red riding hood without the wolf
Keeping secrets
Like a struck dumb marionette
But the truth is so very hard to find

(painted up in shame)
Rosalie,
Why did call my name?
Rosalie, Rosalie
While you were painted in shame?

Oh Rosalie
Oh Rosalie

Boys and spiders
Will weave their webs for you
Trapping your unwary entourage
Cloak and dagger
It’s your stock in trade
But your lies will rot you on the vine

Well
I like it! It's got those big melodic hooks that we've come to expect from you.

If I have one criticism (and I'm being picky) it's that he solos seemed to lack a bit of conviction.

rosalie come out tonight
As always i really like your backups, the way you layer them. And as always the tune gives me a cool 90's nostalgia kick. I like the tone on the rhythm guitar a lot, nice and crisp but not too trebly. I agree that the first solo could use some attack but i like the later solos. I like the boys and spiders line. And I like the little one note lead in the verse, sounds like a synth hit. I was thinking throughout the song that I'd really like to hear this as an acoustic tune - same vocals, same backups, but acoustic guitars. Anyway cool song dude, you should be that secret songwriter for echo and the bunnymen who resurfaced briefly in Charlotte in the 90's and then disappeared to return on the internet, releasing anonymous hits from his home studio.

Love it! Enough pop to be catchy while raw enough to rock. Strong vocal. Great drum sound!

A
nice intro with a good rhythm and tone on the guitars. Drums and vocals sound great Paddy, I like the bass line too.
A very catchy number with a great chorus.
Very much enjoyed.

great
You know I like the power pop, so this one is a particular treat.
really nice harmonies on the chorus.
the guitars have a nice bite to them. the overall balance of raw-ness and pretty sounds is really well done, the essence of good power pop in my humble opinion!
applause!

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
