Greasy bass, such a perfect description. That's exactly what it sounds like. Thank you, and thank you for being the FIRST.

Awwww, thank you on all accounts Karen! You always have the kindest words and I always have to smile when I look up to see your face peeking around the corner on your avatar. hehe

here they come...
the tension is palpable... nice choice of tight strings to bring alien anxiety to the fore. And so good you could join us on this SpaceRace mission, with you here we should be OK now :-) Did you bring snacks to share? I think the aliens look hungry.

Drakonis

Looks
like we're in for a major takedown but with soldiers like you Tracy I think we got a chance.
Cheers,

Mars needs Guitars
Tom Cruise tried to convince Marvin the Martian to become a Scientologist but it didnt work out. Well constructed blend of timbres and textures.

Guitars, yeah!
Ahhhh, Marvin. I for one don't want to mess with him and his Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulatorl!

Thank you AJ.

cool
love the synths, manipulations and drums against the strings. great idea. there is one part where the strings cut off really unnaturally that I just love. great job. what in the world did you do that bass on?

Michael
Quite opposite than your beautiful lulliby, isn't it? Thank you Michael...how cool that you mention that part. It was kind of one of those last minute accidental happenings. I must admit that the bass is a loop, in no way did I play that. I wish!!
Moviz said 2168 days ago (November 12th, 2011)
You really
know how to use sounds and instruments to the best advantage..... those violins for a kick-off so full of tension.... the voices are great and yes I get that bass too.... excellent entry (or re-entry ? LOL), regards M

Great collection and arrangement of sounds. The dramatic feel of the musical content perfectly matches the movie sound clips you chose.

Poof!
I'm so glad you could feel where I was going with it. I ran completely out of time and tried putting and pulling last minute touches on it...there's always so much more I could do but sometimes, you just gotta know when to fold em.

Drama
I like the acoustic meets the electronic in this piece. Your choice of dialog adds to the mystique and is mixed perfectly.

thanks for the download :)

Dramatic
I think the dialog really made it all come together, as simple as they are. Thanks a million, Papag!!

Musically Savvy Too!
Tremendous build of tension. I love the strings set against the growling bass. You have a great variety of sounds that meld to keep the interest throughout this, and the VOX only adds to that as icing on the cake. And whoa, is that a death ray at the end?? Thanks for the dload.

????
How very interesting, I've never heard of this Jon & Vangelis Friends of Mr. Cairo. I have to Google that now that you've piqued my interest. Thanks Henke!!
Henke said 2166 days ago (November 14th, 2011)
Vangelis
is Vangelis, surely?! And Jon is male soprano singer Jon Anderson of Yes etc - and member of this site! Anyway, Jon sings on a couple of Vangelis songs and they made one or two albums together, most famous hit is "I'll find my way home". Friends of Mr Cairo is an album and a rather long song about the greatness of the silver screen and old time's movie stars. There is a dramatic clip with James Stewart (I think) in it, which made me think of it when I heard this. /H

Very cinematic and slightly eerie
...in fact you have actually improved my view of the movie, which I did not think was as good as the original 50/60's ...despite all the digital effects........this was a belter of a musical performance ...greatly done.

Since
I'm so late on this response and I'm fairly certain that you are indeed not checking my page every day for an answer (ha) - I'll just say thank you Steve!! I really appreciate your words of encouragement.

I use Garageband, with mostly chopped up loops and additional key strokes to add some flavor. I go by what sounds good to my ears, I guess. I don't know what else to say except that I do wish I could play real, live instruments to create my music.
