Description
This weekend I had the great pleasure of hanging out with my wife Katy and one of my all time favorite rock n roll heros, cjdaley. We met up on Miami Beach for the second time in a year and it was as great as it gets. We talked about so many things, but for some reason, tonight, while sitting in front of garageband, I remembered some of the things cj and I talked about while sitting on the beach facing the misty Atlantic Ocean. One of the things we talked about was "women" (no, seriously!) and I thought about things that I didn't say then, but that suddenly came to me tonight. I was just thinking about how important it is to give up your selfish habits in order to make a relationship work. I was thinking about the changes you make in your life to make things work out for the two of you, rather than the one of you. Actually, the two of you are one, so you need to make both of the one of you happy, so I wrote this song tonight. I felt like it was important to share this tonight rather than sometime next year. Thank you cj for the inspiration to write another song about my wife. Lol!

Yeah, I know, I finally got in the habit of taking my time with songs, but I can't help myself. Tonight I felt like things were cooking, so here's a hot plate of 5XA music for your supper.

Enjoy.

Lyrics
Planning your life?
Grab a good wife
Build her a home
Build it void of strife!

Build a Temple of Love
Stacked with bricks from above
Reminiscent of
Something Undreamed of....

Guard it with your life!
Cherish your good wife!
Protecting her from All Things Wild
Maybe one day she will give you a child?
Maybe everyday
Your life will be guiled (beguiled)

LEAD

It doesn’t matter
If everything shatters!
Just pick up the pieces
And live with the creases!
Or glue back the pieces
And smooth out the creases!

She’s NEVER wrong
And you’re ALWAYS right
And we both agree
That we shouldn’t fight

You’re ALWAYS wrong
And she’s NEVER right

And we both agree
That we shouldn’t fight

And we both agree
That we shouldn’t fight

No!

You have the secret.
Keep her safe even from yourself because she always takes care of you. And, being right is not what it is about. Thanks.

Keep Her Safe From Me
That's a good lyric. I'll have to use it!

My wife takes great care of me. I don't deserve it, but I'm soo thankful!

Thanks Char - I hoped you'd hear this song!

Like Devo
covering a George Harrison song. The 'ow' after 'the creases' is so fun. This song feels like it is basking in the afterglow (watch yourself) of a great weekend. Good times with good people.

Get your good wife a new glass of water. The one in her hand is filthy. South Beach definitely has a water problem.

Devo vs George Harrison
Interesting concept. Funny that it doesn't work in the reverse. George Harrison covering a Devo sound would be totally different (if it were allowed).

South Beach's biggest problem wasn't the water, it was the lack of Mexican cuisine. The dirty water was fine - almost tasted like coffee. Good times with good people.

Thanks Eric.

Musically
.. it feels like Grandaddy but far less twee. Love the off kilter vox and the synths are to die for. At 01:09 there's some harmonic interplay that is just beautiful on the lead.
The drums are great, there's a lovely tom fill in there that I would like a copy of ....
Great work Bob, and a beautiful sentiment, you crazy romantic.

Off Kilter Vox
Who me?

I've strummed this little melody on my bass for years and years and tonight, with an urgent desire for crunchy bass sounds, I put it together. I'll drop the GB file into the Transcontinentals drop box for you to do with as you please. You did a fine job on the monstrous drums on your latest.

Thanks for the listen Paddy!

Eric's
Devo/Harrison reference point very accurate (to my ears at least)
You have created some brilliant sounds here Bob and I love the sentiment too

Excellent

We're All Devo
Even the Beatles were Devo!

I've noticed that most of the time, when I play my bass with the distortion pedal cranked, I tend to sing sweet songs. Maybe, too sweet. I know it's a thin disguise, but it works for me. My "lighter" musical works probably have heavier intense lyrical ideas.... (I'm thinking Lake of Fire - Lol!)

Hmmmm. I wonder what George Harrison would look like with a Devo dome?

Thanks for the kind words!

Told by you
it sure sounds appetizing. "Reminiscent of something undreamed of" is such a gorgeous line and the lead is full of OMD space-age romanticism.

If I marry by your fault, I'll send you the lawyer bills when I divorce.

Reminiscent of something undreamed of
It's funny how poetic I can get after an inspiring afternoon in South Beach. All that talk of time travel and fajitas had quite a mystical effect.

If you marry, your wife will make sure that your lawyer bills are to pay for the hotel walls that your bass player destroyed while on tour.

Thanks cj!

Thanks Bud! You're too kind, but just so you know, I'm the lucky one! Seriously, imagine having to live with five extra arms? It must be difficult for the dear woman!

Listened at work
You mean you have to make changes in order for your marriage to work? I never thought of that! I still act like a 25 year bachelor. Wow, that explains a lot.
No more sitting around in my underware, drinking beer and playing video games while my 6 year old is sticking a fork into the toaster.

damn this is good. it's so good that I deleted a really funny sarcastic comment and replaced it with this vanilla, 4 door Japanese sedan of a comment.

but really, why don't you do this kind of synth work for the band? holding back your best stuff for your solo projects will break us up.

Love that off kilter bass and high pitched synth - killer combination. And your lyrics have a certain aura of truth about them. Except she is actually always wrong. But don't tell her.
