Description
i have been working off and on with a bunch of little songs that are meant to be a soundtrack. sometimes I work to pictures, or videos or memories. most of them are around a minute or 2 long and some of them feature Particle Dots vocal choir recording he sent me. this one is mostly a cheap push button organ, a piano, a celeste and a recording of some clicking that I had (can't remember what it was though).

many of the songs have a shared motif, but different feels. they're all on the melancholy side and I can never redo the mixes as they were done in such a sloppy way. I pillaged sounds from other logic files, did a quick mix, and would then add sounds to the original file or mistakenly delete some. total amateur mistakes. I also did everything without a click, so the tempo's aren't perfect, and on the tracks with delays, I had to turn off tempo synching and try to set it by ear.

slammed in the real world now, so figured maybe I'd start posting these pieces. I have been calling them Enovox for reasons I can't remember, but will eventually need to come up with a better title when I get them all done. this is something I would listen to in the day to day; picture Sigur Ros, Mum and Jon Brion getting together to put together a soundtrack for a slightly sad indie film that's set in the winter (probably in a coastal region).

Twinkle
I like the concept of musical small fragments that captures an emotional feeling (I like to do these myself) and this is a very fine example of it. Lovely sound of the organ too. Looking forward to the others!

sigur ros
the mere mention of this amazing band gets my full attention. no disappointment listening to this piece. it definitely shares the same emotion of most of sigur ros' work. i only wished it was longer.

hopefully the feedback you receive on this song inspires you to post more from this series. sigur ros colaborated with Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson on an album called "Angels of the Universe". it was a series of short songs based on the same motif, with slight variations thoroughout. you should check out this little beauty if you haven't already. it may give you some direction on what to do with "enovox".

thanks for this.

Repeat 1
This is definitely something I would - and will - put on repeat 1, to listen to while working with some "automatic" stuff on the computer. Great calming sound, non obtrusive, gentle but without getting plain or superficial. And yes, Sigur Ros comes to mind, my new "heros" since a couple of weeks ago...

Thanks and take care,
Henke

Enovox
To me, this is one of the best little collections you have ever done michael - and all just before we did the RPM challenge last year. I still listen to the whole set (a lot) and I am glad you are posting here...I still think the whole set should be released as a CD in its own right

And the reason why they are called 'enovox'...you gave the answer in your first paragraph - "some of them feature Particle Dots vocal choir recording "

Indie movie
I love the way you combine darks and lights, the somber backing with the whimsical melody on piano and bells. I don't know from where the exquisite unidentified click comes from but it holds all together.
I see a silent scratched indie movie in super 8. Totally.

Great Mood Interlude
Almost reminds me of Carter Burwell's work with the Coen Brothers; cool little multi-layered bit w/sparkling bells over an almost ominous reed organ.... minimal yet full, good work.

Sometimes...
the most beautiful things can be created from the simplest means and knowing when it's done and ready is the gift. Right now, I have three truly amazing icicles hanging from the eave of my bedroom window and if they could make music like this, I'd be in for some mighty sweet dreams. Thanks again!

Twinkling...
Like the light broken into rainbow glints from a snowflake, this is a gorgeous and focussed retreat from a small sonic space. The tones you have wrapped together sing harmoniously.

Like this project!
