Description
This one's been in the works for a while now...We got in the studio last weekend and wrote the last verse and finished it.I would still like to get Freddy or someone to add a good drum track but that's typical for my songs lately....The song is about our first band and being in high school in the 70s,,the last verse sort of brings it full circle to present day...Hope yall enjoy,,,,,,Artwork is something I threw together in PhotoShop.

Really Like This!
What a melancholy song! Totally reminds me of the old days of hauling around my Rickenbacker bass and my big ol' amp everywhere before I had to actually grow up and be responsible. Too bad I never really improved on my musicianship since then. I see you mentioned you're looking for a better drum track. I wouldn't mind pulling out the old "pots and pans" for a try.....

Glad you got the essence of the tune....Cool coincidence that the bass player in our "first rock band" played a Rickenbacker....His name was Earl and he still has it.....Wish I had it lol...thanks for the comment man.

There are so many levels one can relate to your lyrics here J; even those of us who were not part of the "cool" gang (I just never gave it much effort!) can resonate with this in an analogous kind of way--the emotions are just the same and the lyrics here touch on those experiences and feelings extremely well. You did a very fine job presenting your song, very solid as usual in all areas (I did have trouble making out a word or two, but a second listen clarified that easily--and I know in this style of music, it's the emotion more than the diction which is important in the vocal and in that case, you pulled it off beautifully!) Mix is nice and clear--well balanced, and I think the drum is serviceable but agree with you that a little more panache on the skins gracing this piece would be a very good idea. Thanks again for the topnotch work and for sharing it with us! Michael

Never had the confidence...
to be in a band ordo any performing so can only imagine at the sentiments behind this song, but it is pretty well crafted and turned out in its sunday best ! It has a 70's rock/ballad vibe (not "Power ballad....never PowerBallad)between Boston and Blue Oyster cult.....nice.....

Cool straight ahead rockin
like how the lower end feels, the way the bass mixes in with the chords and drums. Almost has a feel of bachman turner over drive (sorry for the spelling). Again nice lower end and bit of dobbie bro. too!

I can relate to this one. I like the verse progression especially, and the way the guitar fills in. Good rock voice with plenty of attitude. I like the way the Ovation sounds in the mix. I'll second the Mellencamp reference.

I can relate
Oh boy, I can relate to this tune. I gigged all over the Southeast for several years. The first band I had in high school played tons of frat gigs at a couple big universities, and I thought we were soooo cool. Fun times. Great tune.

Cougarish
as in Mellenkamp. You could easily cover all his stuff with that voice. Nicely laid out tune, with the vocals making the track in my humble O. Nice mix, good separation. Might like the entire track a little hotter, but I have a volume control, so no biggy. Nice understated ending. Like it.

Very Mellencamp for sure
Guitars and vocal sound great, and the lyrics are definitely resonating with me.
I agree about the drum track - I think the song deserves getting that sorted out. Probably could do with some more grunt on the bass too - but that's always my preference :)
Nice post.
Cheers,
Neil

Took me long enough to comment ... I've listened to it a few times now and really like the tune ... very cool guitar progression at 2:15, and the chorus/bridge that comes after. Guitars are nice and clear in the mix as is the excellent vocals. The drums could use some variation. I also could hear an electric doing some noodling and a lead. Now I'm just babbling. Enjoyed the tune!

Nice work, J-man. Tight guitar work and the bass and drums keep things rolling along. Like the vocal work, too, reminds me of the Doobies, but I feel that it could be a bit more forward in the mix? Much enjoyed. Regards, Peter.

I totally dig your southern rock vocals. I'd bring the vocals forward just a bit. THey seemed a tad soft in the mix.
