Description
Neil (Neilh79) put up a mandolin track after barely disposing of the wrapping paper that the instrument,a Christmas present, came in. After a couple of listens through on the rack of Cubase I discerned that I could not work out all the keys so I went and punched him....sorry ,asked him for the breakdown of the chord progression and I would noodle over it with my Mandoloin which curiously is also a Christmas present from a couple years ago........I have never really got to grips with it as you will hear but fancied trying out a mandojam.......no mandolins were injured or harmed in the making of this........well ,not really injured....

Nothing
could be finer than dueling mandolins. Sweet, Chris. Surprisingly gentle for such an ornery cuss as yourself..;) Thanks.

Duelling Mandolins
like the idea of that....starting off the New Year with the littler instruments and giving them a gentle workout...."Surprisingly gentle"
hmmm not sure about, that there was an awful lot of ornery cussingness going on when I recorded this and kept missing the chord changes on Neil's original....still it came out nearly alright in the wash...

Thanks for having a listen.....

Presto Mando Change-o!
Hey, I know this Neil tune, but now there's this guy coloring between the lines... and it does add lots of color, perhaps shades of ecru, which makes you an ecrooner, perhaps. Mandolificent (which is a self-contained tongue-twister)! I think you are having a lot of fun here! It seems we are all having a lot of fun with Mandolins lately, myself included! Yay Chris!

Colouring in with
a mandolin ....I like that...I am not allowed to use the hard pointy pencil colouring in sticks ..I have to use the squidgy waxy ones....
Mandolin madness it would seem at the early part of this New Year.

Thanks for listening.

Cheers

Man,
All these great mandolin pieces make me feel eager to playing mandolin (and buying one first :-)).

Compared to guitar, how easy (or difficult) is it ?

Great work guys, I really enjoyed listening to this.

Umm it's tuned in
a mirror image to the guitar lower strings so it goes G D A E....the chords are a bit whacky ...but fairly easy to barre or work out....I cannot play it well but young Hicks seems to have picked up very quickly.......I think I WILL punch him after all !! I'll PM you with a bit more detail...thanks for stopping in....

Mandouet
First comment, because I saw it first, is I like your art Chris - it's kind of psychedelic and suits parts of this tune well.

So yes, the twin Christmas presents sound great together with the noodling and strumming supporting each other musically like eggs and bacon. It's like having a little bit of West Virginia in the headphones at times too. I may even hear some Beatles in there (probably one of those tracks you have to play backwards to get all the hidden meanings).

Sounds like fun.

Cheers,
Doug

Thanks for dropping in Doug,
We seem to be having a mandoFest just lately ,what with Drak's Seattle
Mandlin Orchestra, now this ....seems to be sparking interestin the little doo-hickey as well....The art is done in Paint ...I cropped my mando and Neils from photos and splurgeed some fill behindthem....simple but effective..Thanks for the nice words...

Cheers

Grim?
I don't think so. Is it possible for a mandolin to sound grim?
You've been learning so many instruments lately you'll soon be a one man band, and not the kind with cymbals between your knees.

I like the idea of
cymbals ....like the big bass drum on the back !...actually my little room looks more like a music shop every day !!

Thanks for stopping by !

It was in the last round...
...Happy Mandolin had Grim One down for the count when suddenly, Grim bit Happy in the armpit and made clean break of it! Really now, this was wonderful Chris and Neil. You really excellent additions to Neil's melody and I liked this very much! I enjoyed Neil's piece and was thinking of adding some things here on my keyboard (PS: Chris, if you still have the chords for this could you PM them to me? I may take this track--with both your permissions of course--and add a little rhythm in the bass line perhaps). Thanks for both of your work on this! Michael

Yes I have them ...
Iwill do a PM tommorrow and look forward to your additions......Neil gets no say in this as he is junior oik and still has L plates on his mando so will do as he is told......I too still have L pates but mine are faded and gnarly with dead flies and other weather blown detritus.....( Bugger ..do you have L plates for learner drivers ?)

Dig This Sound
I am particularly drawn to the sounds of the Mandolin. This instrument can make very interesting music as you guys are doing here freelancing nicely. There you go fun and more fun. Nice
