Description
The ambient genre is new to new (at least ing composing) and I am enjoying getting to know my way around it.
"The Waters That Surround Me" is very low key with lots of synth. I was going for a sensation of being deep underwater with a sense of exploration. I hope you enjoy it.

Really soothing
This is such a soft soothing piece of work. I enjoyed listening to it. And with the water feel to the song, I found myself flashing back to the titanic movie (my favorite movie).

Very nice
I'm not so sure you need the bubbles though! I don't think this piece needs them. I may be hearing a little distortion here and there, maybe you should consider remixing, lowering the volume on some of the synths and upping the volume of the master. There's no clipping on your file, I downloaded and looked! The big bass swell that comes in around 2.30 is wonderful!

Sounds like proper ambient music to me, unlike an awful lot of stuff that's posted here under that handle [my own included, I have to say!]. Good work too, if this is your first foray into the genre. You should do more like this.

Hi Jack......
I enjoyed this piece although, like Davajonah, I think the piece sells itself enough without the 'natural' sounds. Very evocative and calming.

Take care.

The water that surrounds me
Hi Jack, first off a nice composition, but I have to agree with the others. A new version that has the distorted low end mixed out is in order to let the soothing textures breathe. I have that same problem with most of my comps. I always ease back on the compression and then EQ, which helps for me.

The bubbling effect didn't bother me, (for me, I would of made it just a tad more subtle)

Great imagery above!

accidental bubbles
To be honset, the bubble sound is a side affect of one of the effect i had to render the piece, so im not sure how to "lessen" it. I will try to figure out the distortion thing. I had half considered keeping it(sometimes i like that sort of thing) but i am not sure how to fix that yet.

distortion without clipping...
It is possible to have one track (those mid-synths) clipping (that track would be hitting the red), but then the overall volume of the master track set down low enough to compensate... that sounds like what's happening here. I agree this is really gorgeous, but the distortion on that one track is sort of distracting. Hopefully you can lower the volume on that one track, then lower other tracks too to keep their relative volume, then BOOST the master gain back up... hopefully that takes some of the grittiness out of the synths. Then it will be super smooth! I like this.

I think it's fixed
I think it's fixed; what do I do now? Do I delete the old one and repost or submit it as a new song?

Submersed
This has a lovely shimmery floating and timeless quality. It is spacious in all directions, colourful in its tonality, and restful in the emotion.

I really like how you let things unfold here in a very natural manner.

You were asking about how to post the new 'fixed' version now that you discovered what to do. Certainly you will have to post the new version if you want to make it available, and it is up to you about whether to delete this one or not. As far as I know, you can't change out the music on an existing post.

I would love to be let down from this wonderful and penetrating sonic space you create a little more gently with an ending that fades more slowly.

Very nice track!

Thanks Jack,
Doug

The Waters That Surround Me
I think you have definitely achieved your goal of creating the sensation of being under water with a sense of exploration. It reminds me of my times SCUBA diving, when I would lay there and float back and forth with the current.

You did a very good job mixing melody with transience on this piece, and I liked your instrumentation. An enjoyable listen. Thanks for posting.

This does have a nice underwater feel. I can imagine a coral reef with all the fish and sea stuff swaying. Good stuff.
