Description
Final Version, listen here>> Innercityhood

This is a short demo (and a piece of recently found history) that I did during a lunch break in 2005. A few days ago Richard Schletty sent me this email and the "ancient" demo: Jack, A moment from the past. You sent this to me August 14, 2005. It was the solid foundation for the final version!
And I'm posting it because, after all this time, it really doesn't sound all that shabby...

This really was a surprise. I hadn't heard this demo since the day I sent it to Richard. I lost it when my iBook died. The demo Innercityhood was based on the music track by Johnny Katchoolik and some thoughts and musings that Richard sent me. I did the demo to give Richard a possible idea as to how this could be sung with his lyric notes. Richard commented in 2005: Jack did the original vocal sketch, singing the phrases and thought bites I had scratched out in a quick memo to him. I hadn't intended for them to be actual lyrics -- they were just a list of impressions... a "stream of feelings" based on my 2-hour walk through the Beltrami neighborhood of north Minneapolis last July with my wife (while the kids splashed in the Jim Lupient Waterpark in the old quarry site). In his "lunch break special", Jack came up with a few choice phrasings and lyric additions that were carried through to the final song you hear here.

Richard sings the actual song we posted, mostly the work of he and Johnny, with a little help from Craig (snowdragon) Bakay and me. The song is really cool and can be listened to here>> Innercityhood Do give it a listen!

Thanks, Richard.

An interesting
observational song ...a happy accident that has come to fruition in a folk - rock manner and made a good song...I like the structure and the folkiness pushing itself into the front row whilst the rock instrumentation maintains that part of the genre...I will try out "innercityhood" later as advised and pointed to by your good self.

Thanks for this .
Cheers

Observations...
Indeed, Mr. J. - Rich's extemporaneous musings were quite suitable for Johnny's music. Something he was able to pour his heart into when he sang. I look forward to reading any comments you might have on the final tune.

cheers...

I like this a lot. Interesting lyrics, engaging vocal, solid rhythmical bed and then variety from the guitar breaks. Much enjoyed!

Rich's words and Johnny's music drew out my vocal. I hit a bunt single. Richard hit the homerun...

Jack,
I'll seee if I can dig up some other lost gems! So good to hear this again. I miss collaborating with you and others here at MacJams. Did you ever pop the hard drive out of your dead iBook? Or was it the internal drive itself that died. "The day the music data got corrupted." Do I remember a song like that?

Social comment, great groove and nice not to hear a screaming guitar solo!

Thanks mate...
It's a nice groove, as you wrote. Johnny (I repeat myself...) did a fantastic job with the guitar... Rich caught the spirit of the times in his words.

Trip back in time...
Good post, Jack. Enjoyed the back story. Liked Johnny's guitars a lot. Had a vague Richard Thompson vibe. Enjoyed the trip back in time (not too far back, though). Thanks, Peter.

strong images...
... in the lyrics, indeed. Yeah, Rich really captured some pictures and emotions in his notes from his walk through his town. Thanks for stopping in for the walk down memory lane.
