Lyrics
Take a picture of the back yard
When you wake in the middle of the night
When you take flight
I will be around

The only stains on me clothes
From old family blood
Are on my shoes
in the mid western mud

This umbrella has planted me in the sun
and the surfs rolling under……..
Clouds high and shattered
up north it is snowing
the storm that always comes
over oceans, over deserts, Across rivers
straight from the sun

leaves are falling around a twisted vine
on my walk in the morning
twisted leaves are falling
before the sun can shine

well the keys to the city
they come and they go
like anything great
any great show
glide over my skin you see I’ve been cut too
I admire your words and the way they come out
So honest and true

leaves are falling around a twisted vine
on my walk in the morning
twisted leaves are falling
before the sun can shine

Love the feel of this - I sort of get Tom Waits style. Those lethargic guitars are great! The lyrics are full of strong imagery. Excellent arrangement and mix. Impressive music!

Almost
stream of consciousness. Certainly, personal. Kind of laid back but still intense. Thanks.

never heard you before and this is one fine first impression. liked all the elements (and love that organ). in some off-beat way, i could hear Dylan doing this also. REALLY good song.

Deserves a wide audience...
Nice one, Tim. Really fine song. One of your best. Like the lyrics a lot and your world-weary vocal is just great. Also like the contribution of the keys and the slide. Top post. Deserves a wide audience. Take care, Peter

I like the imagery in the lyric "This umbrella has planted me in the sun", "Clouds high and shattered". Spare arrangement allows the melody to shine. Slide is a great flavor. I agree with Peter and Karen, "world weary" is a good way to describe the vocal which works well with the laid-back arrangement.

has a sparklehorse vibe
i like it. it's the freaky, stoned hippie reading Heidegger at the country rock show. everybody's trying to decide whether to think he's cool or throw bottles at him. nice tune. thanks for the dl.

Oh I like this - so unusual but so appealing and listener friendly. A well written and thoughtful composition. Wonderful.

One down, more to go
You are doing the challenge again? Doesn't this make it the third year in a row? I admire your tenacity. I'm such a slacker that I haven't even commented on your last posted song - although I have had the best intentions to do so.

I love the laid back surrealistic vibe of this tune. The lyrics read like a person trapped in a dream.

This is yet another diamond in the rough... WOW! Almost gives me some Jerry feelings here - great story once again, and great performance - you love what you do and it shines through... Love the slides....
