Lament a la Paul Page

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
I posted a solo piano piece a couple of weeks ago and the very talented Paul Page added some beautiful orchestration. I really hadn't planned on doing anything more with the song, so it's interesting to see where others hear it going. I posted this because I think Paul is wonderful and I really love the minimalistic treatment he gave this.

If anyone else would like to have a go at it, the original piano solo is here: Lament de l'Amour

I'd love to hear what happens.

Formidable talents...
Both of you have recently posted absolute gems and it is great that your formidable talents are combining here. Paul has added some very subtle but perfectly conceived orchestration to your stellar solo piece, Shay. It was great to hear this song again. Regards, Peter.

the cool thing about a talent like Paul is that his orchestration really accentuates the piano instead of overwhelming it - which allows the spacing and emotion of the playing to be heard, and even emphasized. thank you so much for your visit and comments.

soft and gentle depth
even moreso with Paul's deft touches... this piece of yours leaves me sitting here, partly stunned, partly wistful, but mostly just quiet and contemplative from the washes of musical beauty... every time I listen to it.

Hi Shay.....
The sounds that Paul has chosen work very well with your piano. Everything enhances everything else.

For some reason Mary Poppins music comes to mind. Maybe you know what I mean. I don't mean stolen but complementary or parts of a greater suite of music.

Take care.

Paul

Surprising and wonderful things happen when people collaborate here. The added instruments enhance the piano giving the whole composition greater depth while preserving its spare simplicity.

Minimal is good.
Reminds me just a little of Nick Drake's 'Fruit Tree', and that is also a good thing.

An elegantly simple sort of beautiful....

Beautifully heartbreaking. Really captures the feeling of loss and regret. I know an instrumental is really good when I imagine a vocalist and realize that it would detract from the purity. It's just the way it has to be. Top collab.

I agree. I admit that I also imagined vocals for a moment, but the piano has its own things to say.

Just the right additions, no more no less. Paul is another master.

You have woven this wonderfully emotional and reflective atmosphere and an inescapable connection to your nuanced presentation of the melody.

Gorgeous work you two!
