Description
GrooveMaker Series

GrooveMaker is an iOS app which allows you to arrange a variety of samples (loops) in a variety of ways, usually within a genre. After trying the free version I sprang for the Reggae, mon, and finally got a chance to put it through its paces early last year while I was away from the computer.

Like many of these apps, they are somewhat limited and limiting. I put together a dozen or so tracks using the app but I treated them as sketches for something better. Several I thought might benefit from further work so I imported the relevant samples into Garageband, remixed, added effects, delay, EQ, etc. Just before Halloween last year I posted Omniphobia, which has a backer made with GrooveMaker. In early December I posted Summer Nocturne (feat/awigze) which has some tasty sax additions by Andy Wigzell. At Christmastime, for a change of pace, I posted Searchin'.

*****

This tune, Deadbeat, consists of a bass, bass drum, 4 brass tracks, some choir, synth, and pads.

The image is R. Crumb's iconic Mr Natural, updated for the iPod generation. "Just passin' through."

Deadbeat
Interesting method of construction. Steady, smooth beat. I guess I'd like to hear something more in it - Andy's sax or maybe abzworks guitar - but it does give food for thought about what can be done with Groovemaker! I enjoyed listening!

after learning a little more about you, it's impressive how much of a contemporary mind you have musically. i have that same feeling for Mo (well, despite his statement above). just hope i'm that way 20-30 years from now...esp now i know it can be done.
inspirational codgers!

agreed on Andy's sax in this. i can hear it now...

Works really well
I like the variations within the song, like different while keeping it consistent. Always happy when I enjoy a song in a genre I am a bit skeptical about...

Thanks and take care,
Henke

Dig this Cold Groove Baby, Get down!
Yeah my man jam baby. I'm already smiling. Funk is abound here. And I'm in that 'Groove Zone' Held so tightly together with synths dancing on a bed of deep and penetrating bass sounds. Let it fly baby. I'm soaring Ha Ha. Love it Mix Magic Man! Another Too Cold Production. Yeah!*****

Deadbeat...
You get a lotta flava out of these so called "limited/limiting" resources of yours..I aways say...its not the tools, but the wielding the tool...nice n varied groove on this theme...mixx is pristene and lets the empty space shine as much as the color splashes..I'm smilin' ear 2 ear..most excellent indeed..:):):)peace

ha ha i just read sammy dix's comment.....it makes you sound like you're 200 years old. go on send me a PM and tell me how old you are. anyway, this is cool.....the beat at the bottom is perfect joint-rolling music - in fact it's way past the evening watershed. the synths are a bit upfront for my liking.....but this is a totally cool ride. love the stand alone bass at 3.20. favourite section is from 4.30 - simple......hypnotic. nice.

Mr Natural!
I love him. He would approve, I think of this tune. Laid back and dubby. You have the bass gift indeed. It's just there and nice. Maybe some more panning at times on the synths would be good. How did I miss this in March? Anyway, here I am. Thumbs up.
