Lament de L'Amour avec Kassia

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
O dear ....I have probably bit off more than I can chew here and going to get served with a massive return of scorn and mockery...this is me collabing with Kassia, whom summed it up quite eloquently when I confessed to having had a noodle on the mandolin to her composition 'Lament de L'Amour'.
Her answer was a sort of puzzled;
" chris never in a million years would i have imagined a jarvoid/kassia collaboration, but if you and your mando noodling want to be heard, i'm all ears! thank you for stopping by for a listen! " and I went away and I developed the noodle into.....oh well, into this .....I have taken an excellent base piano part and tried not to ruin it ..........here goes....

Well, it WAS lovely
and you didn't rooin it ;-) Actually, your mando sounds a little like a balalaika so the whole thing now has a kind or Rooshian melon-collie (See, I learnt my spelling from you).
Nobody in a million years might have predicted this pair of collaborators but it's really sweet. Good job Chris.

Drama ...yes
it (the Mando) has put a certain feeling to it that whilst not lacking before (not by any means) but it just shows how different instruments change timbre and tone of tunes .....intersting .....

Mandolins are synonymous
with that movie for me as well and whilst the film was not a direct influence some of that sinisterism,or drama has rubbed off onto Kassia's original....spooky...
finkeldink said 1841 days ago (March 14th, 2012)
Thats great
What sadness in this song.
The mandolin really adds to that.
this turned out really great.
I imagined myself in Venice listening to this.

Although the original
piece was melancholic it was not my intent to make it even more melancholic but the instrument itself has done that.......hmmm

Thanks for having a listen...

A fine embellishment...
Hey Chris, I must say when I first saw this and started reading the description, I thought, I HAVE to hear Jarvo's take on this. You surprised me, although on reflection I shouldn't have been surprised, with the delicacy and subtleness of your playing. Your mando noodling is much more than that. A lovely listen and a fine embellishment of Shay's stellar track. Thanks, Peter

I think a few people may have had
to do a doubletake when they saw the pairing in the collab, but Shay's Lament had me reaching for the Mando as the opening bars unfolded and the little riff at 1:10 was born almost immediately and I think has a Russian flavour.....gag....now I listen again I can hear a couple of bloopers ....well back to the practice room ....thanks for listening .

Cheers

You did great
Very nice playing on the mandolin, Chris. If it had been me, I think I would have tried a bit more reverb on the mandolin to see if the instruments could blend even better in the mix, not sure. But even as is it sounds reeeaaaalll nice. Thanks.

Take care,
Henke

Heke,I tend to like reverb
a lot and I am aware that it is a "marmite thing",some folks like a lot some only a little ....I also thought that withall the trills and tremeloes that too much...or rather more would be too much... i will play about with the file and see....thanks for stopping in and feeding back,appreciated..
