Be Bop TvRicky

Description
This tune started out with me listening to one of TvRicky’s tracks, called “Be Bop Groove”. I’d commented on the groove it sat in and how I’d like to play over the top of it . TvRicky was happy for this to happen, so I got started. I put a Cm blues progression over it with chords on the left and right channels and a lead in the middle. I added a bass line, using TvRicky’s bass as a guide, so that there was a bass that followed the chords.

While this was going on, TvRicky uploaded a new track called “Zip Avenue’s Cool”. I liked this one, too and wondered if that might work better than the first track. So I imported it into what I had already done.

Then I thought that in fact they sounded good together, so placed one to the left and the other to the right. In the new track there were other instruments zipping in and out and I thought the chord progression I’d put down was now pushing everything into the “way too busy” category, so I redid the parts with simpler, more spacious chords to give some more room for the other things that were going on.

I ran all this past TvRicky who was happy for me to post the results, so here they are. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed playing it! And thanks again to TvRicky for allowing me to do what I’ve done to his fabulous music!

The artwork is Pablo Picasso’s “Three Musicians”.

Tasteful job...
Hi Philip. You are coaxing some mighty fine lines out of the Howard Roberts on this. Ricky's tracks provide a creative backdrop for you to work with and you have done a tasteful job filling in the spaces. Nice! The ending was probably governed by Ricky's tracks but it just dies out a bit? Congratulations. Talk later today, Peter.

Tasteful
Thanks, Peter. Glad you liked it! Re the ending, the original track had a fadeout ending and I just followed that. The second track was a bit longer than the first, so I just did a Master Fade to finish the whole thing off. See you soon!

Man You are "Too Cold" Wes
I swear the Days of Wes Montgomery have resurfaced. Phillip my man I am honored and elated by what you have done here my friend. Such groove and just plain 'Soul' Licks..Baby. When I first heard what you were doing.Quite frankly I was blown! The 'feel' you put into this is undeniable and I love the Bass Licks. But your guitar is talking and it just pours the rain of a musicians care and talent. I think Wes Montgomery was the first guitarist that caught my ear and man have you a sound that reminds me so mush of his 'feel'. I haven't felt this sound in a long time baby but 'Your Sound is absolutely fascinating! Thank you for having faith in 'My Groove' And you took it and gave us yours. What an amazing talent you are!

Wes
You are very generous in your comments, Ricky, but I think I'm many hours of practice and several levels of talent away from Wes, who was ground-breaking in his playing. He is a favourite of mine, though - I think his version of Misty, for example, is as good as it gets! And what you've left out of your comment is the importance of your own work in this piece - you set the tone of what was possible and I thank you very much for creating music that excites the imagination! Keep doing it!

This is really really nice. Interesting and impressive the way you combined two tracks to one! I love the guitar and that shuffling rhythm (although I'd prefer the hihat panned to the right toned down a bit in my headphones). Excellent work you two!

I'm glad that the track came up as interesting and nice - I was worried at one stage it might just be "interesting". Re the mix, it is fascinating the way different people hear things - I wish there was a way of letting everyone hear it and then posting it, but I guess to some extent the music is always a work in progress. Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment - much appreciated!

Oh ...this puts my effort into the shade....
still and all, nice ,really nice guitar tone and style.....which I suppose really means delightfully played. I did my version and then sat and listened to this.....it was one of those moments when you eye your instruments and feel for a box of matches 80) ....but I resisted...superb garnishing of TvRickys masterly track.....great guns

Cheers
