They can't take that away
The McPIke backing is smooth as silk and has beautiful tones. I like the walking bass and the punchy brass. The trumpet solo is a gem. So, was it him or you that rolled the "modulate" wheel? Hmmm... We may never know... Anyway, back to the song: your vocal has all the usual strength and tone and with just a bit of syncopation in the phrasing that gives it life. Joyful music, Michael.

Phillipe!
Yanno, I think there really is some inexplicable warpage (is that a word?) going on there that was accentuated by my lowering it to the key of H or something--I've had this track for eons and always noticed it. The guy does excellent work, don't get me wrong! Thanks for stopping in and appreciated hearing from you! Michael

Fine rendition...
Can't listen to this song without thinking about Ella and Louie. Great song. Fine rendition. And I don't mean taking you to a secret jail in Yugoslavia :-) The backer is superb and you do a worthy job following in the footsteps of giants, Michael. Thanks for the Sunday morning treat. Regards, Peter.

Pietro!
Oh yes, I have that CD in my archives and it's long been a favorite. Funny you mention Yugoslavia because I was doing some work in my company's database Thursday and, much to our abject horror, saw we were using "Ugoslavia" instead of the correct spelling when dealing with our customers! I should get at LEAST a 13 cent pay increase for noticing that egregious error! Thanks so much for listening--I didn't spend much time on this last night, but glad you liked it Peter. You take care now! Michael

Those Gershwin fellas
were a pretty good team and I think you would have been a fine addition to their company - that is if they had one. And if they didn't then they would have built one around you my friend - someone who makes a great song all his own.
Cheers,
Charlie

I'm 3 hours from Vegas Man!
But every time I tune you in I am at the Tropicana listening to your show! Yeah baby take us there! I feel I am living history with you wonderful and I must add "magical" performances. I'm sure if words could truly express what you do as a singer. You would immediately move to Vegas and become a Headliner! Michael you are one of those 'Cat's' who really are not aware of how talented you are! Natural and flowing..no one dose this like you my friend!

this is great, Michael...
I love this song (who doesn't). Your version is right up there, imho. Always like your Jerry Lewis bits of comic relief. Always the entertainer, and that is a big plus.

Don't take this away
Didn't know this was a Gershwin number. Swinging treatment Michael, and I think the phrasing, and improved timing in the second part after the break is even more outstanding than the first part. I can't hear your work without a wide smile. Thanks!

Shoo bee doo to you,
Doug

Lovely Michael!
Another quality piece of work. Sounds like it's pitched a little lower than your normal vocal but it works really well.

Bringing it back home
It's a good thing good music goes on forever .. because obviously you were born too late : )

Of course, that just makes you special to a place like MacJams - bringing back the joy of listening to the great music of other times and places.

Keep it up!

Maybe the most charming of all jazz standards! You did it beautifully! I love Alan's arrangement. The bone solo is excellent. Although the solo after the bone was a tad strange. He probably isn't the band's regular guy.

They can't
Never underestimate the key of H Michael. It's used by some of the greats, as well as hacks like myself although in my case the H stands for "huh?". Great backer to this, smooth and slinky but those orchestral punches are like being slapped by Lana Turner. Adds colour to your cheeks and you really don't mind if it happens again. I trust your residency at club tip top is working out well and they've stopped paying you per dirty ashtray. Personally I find that amount of ticker tape excessive but that's just me. Excellent work mate! The singing's not bad either ;)

I'm feeling the wonderful vibe of this old dance number. How many people have met on the dance floor to this tune? Terrific job singing as usual. Smooth, effortless and timeless.

Do you do requests?
You know Seth McFarlane is making money from doing old standards, and your stuff is actually better, and more eclectic. (I'm talking "Bunch of Coconuts " here). I hope that one day you are able to make serious dough from your talents, if that is what you wish. At any rate, us MacJammers are privileged to hear all this first. Toupee!

Wow what a swinging tune!
This really brings me back to the big band sounds of the 30s and later era the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra (rat pack). You really have some style. Casino Royal, cocktail suits, bow ties and sassy cabaret. Nice stuff Michael.

I'd love this before I even opened it up. MJK is the star of this kind of vocal performance and does not disappoint on this track. You have such a smooth and confident way of singing these gems from the past...a unique talent and one that is so pleasant to hear.

ah...
wonderful... my favourite gershwin tune.
Sarah Vaughan's version is my favourite.
Maybe Mr. McPike went a little glitchy on this one, but you didn't have to go all Buddy Rich on him... :)
Thanks for another great tune!
