Description
A Dylanesque look at denial. This is a work in progress (ie a rough demo), so hopefully what it lacks in polish it makes up for in energy.

I’m Doing Fine

Lyrics by Kevin Bowen
Music By Kevin Bowen

Verse one
I’m telling you
I’m doing fine
There’s no need
To slip into my mind
There’s no need
To read between my lines
There’s no need
To hit me from behind
There’s no need
To save me
From mankind

Verse two
I’m telling you
I’m doing swell
There’s no need
For me to kiss and tell
There’s no need
For you to break my spell
There’s no need
To lock me in your cell
There’s no need to
Ring me like a bell

Verse three
I’m telling you
I’m doing fine
There’s no need
For you to be unkind
There’s no need
For you to waste my time
There’s no need
To be so philistine
There’s no need
To do this
Every time

BRIDGE
There’s no reason, there’s no rhyme
Take what is yours, but leave me mine
There’s no reason, there’s no rhyme
Take what is yours, but leave me mine

Verse four
I’m telling you
I’m doing fine
There's no need for
You to be so blind
There’s no need
To stop me in my prime
There’s no need
To try to steal my rhymes
There’s no need
To solve these petty crimes

I'm doing fine
Certainly has early-Dylan sound in the playing, the vocal and the harmonica (I do like the sound you're getting from that harp!) Good song well delivered. Much enjoyed!

This is great. You're really good. But drop the Dylan thing. You're too good for it. My guess is that your original sound will blow us away when we hear it. That's my 4 cents.

Thanks
Craig - thanks for the feedback. I guess I am still trying to find my way as a vocalist. I write and sing in a lot of different styles, but still really see myself as more of a song writer than a performer, so feedback like this is very helpful. I listened to your song "Little Something Else" and posted a comment. That is a great pop song!

Hey Kevin
Imitation is the strongest form of admiration available to a musician. You have nailed the craft aspect of this touchstone. Great job! The production is simple and effective.
Dylan doesn't even know the man who performed in this style all those years ago, so I guess it's fair game, like everything else... If I might suggest, add some layers to your wordsmith engine, and put your ideas into things.
Kinda like dressing up in another man's clothes at this depth...

Well executed
You've definitely got the Dylan sound down pat and it is well executed. The harp rounds things out nicely. The lyrics might benefit from being a bit less straight ahead and having a bit more subtlety and imagery? Take care, Peter.

In the summer of 2011, I was having a conversation with a director who was producing a musical I had written, and he was telling me about another play he was developing about high school students. I suggested he incorporate one scene where the studen... [see more]
