time out to play

Description
lots and lots of stacked synths a dimm witness tradition -- this one with subdued vocals to make the synths even bigger

originally written on guitar with strings tuned all weird while on vacation up in tehachapi ;)

it's weird with weird tuned strings, for me, it's easier to compose melody and stick with simple chords. as I learned and played this song I realized real rock songwriters and probably songwriters period just know how to listen and play the right notes naturally -- something I've never been able to do outside of lifting progressions.

this is not lifted but as I continued to play and listen back to the little tape player (yes original a few years back recorded on cassette) I go -- wow! it's let it be by the beatles! so at the end I went ahead and gave that away if you listen even not so carefully ;)

anyway happy 4-20 everybody ;) happy spring happy fresh start happy listening happy playing happy happy!!

take time out!!

Lyrics
even where walk to where you building every time
even when you time to run away
falling the ocean stare you preview any wine
aim before your feel falls away

time out to play play your field what you want to say
time has a way searching where what you want today
time like to play time time to time to run away

leavin down the old life where you left it anytime
hold it in your mind and ask to play
breakin down the only walls you built up in your mind
up in where your fears fall to play

time out to play bringin down the old hard way
time out to play ripped you down the run right way
time right away beggin down the only skies to gray

world at night to say goodbye before you fall away
time to face the awk and wall today
breaking off the old life where you held you anyway
causing stacks of dares be off the way

time out to play broken down the old hard way
time out to play back to worryin come monday
time out to play had to take some time to get away

It IS weird!
But a good kind of weird, and I have a real appreciation of offbeat, eccentric works like this (hey, anybody that will not admit they enjoy a little weird music now and then is a prevaricator AND a mo-mo!) The thing is, this is really good on it's own two feet with lots of merit to it. Great lyrics, your musical bed is just right for them and heightens the meanings of the words. I liked it!! Take care now and have a good weekend chief! Michael

good weird
is better than just plain weird any day ;) weird and accessible is always preferable occasionally a song can land there. with me it is an accident I can assure you -- thanks :)

I like the lyrics. They're quite vague and yet very optimistic. A lot of songs have the same changes as "Let it Be." Paul lifted them from somewhere too. He wasn't the first to write a song with a I, IV, V, and VI chord. But you're point is well taken. I find working with simple changes makes coming up with a melody much easier.

vague
I write with "nonsense syllables" where I intend to "fix" the lyrics with something that people can relate to later -- but I am terrible with follow through ;0 so I stand on the old jon anderson explanation it's more important how the words sound than what they say. to the frustration and bafflement of everyone who's found incomprehensibility irritating. myself I can't understand lyrics of any songs and have always misheard them anyway

thanks ;)

Time Out To Play
Hi Eddie. Uplifting song! This has a sea-shanty type feel. The massed synths sound almost like an organ and an accordion playing together. The call and response chorus is catchy and makes you want to sing along (and drink rum :-)). I like it. Thanks, Peter.

actually
I caught that sea shanty feel thing myself after it was done I have no idea where that came from -- as a weekend vacation song I guess it fits ;) but i was in the mountains when I wrote it go figure. and it's supposed to be a guitar song I'm wired up backwards

thanks ;)

I like what you do with the stack of synths, and the message you are sending. Intriguing music that got me in!

Some pretty cool posts lately ... like the lyrics and the vocals. Nice wall of synth and the drums hold everything together in the mix. Enjoyed the chord progression ... very melodic. Enjoyed!
