Description
A song about finding the courage to leave when you don't know where you're going. I've changed the genre from "Lo-Fi" to Alternative Rock, because that's where my writing/arranging style fits best... Still unsure about where this tune fits best. This is really more of an "Anthem" but that's not really a style.

Lyrics
Step Aside

Letting go of all the love you never knew
It’s not easy now, is it?
You know it’s not what you want but you don’t know what you do
You just kind of go with it.

Too old to just get up and start again,
Too young to imagine the rest of your life with him,
The money, the home, the pets, the friends you pull in half,
The job, the garden, the kids you never had.

Letting go it takes a lot of time to think it through
So you don’t regret it.
The pull of desire leads you heart away but still you stay
Don’t know if you should let it.

Mondays anxious fears kept you up too late
By Wednesday it’s not so bad, you’ll just accept your fate
Friday decide to take a ride and leave the state,
But then you wait,

Paralyzed.

Push past the inertia to move.
Draw your breath, forget what you have to lose.
It feels so slow when you first fight gravity’s pull
When you’re so uncertain of your final goal.

But you find the strength,
And you break the past,
Apologize,
Close your eyes,

And step aside.

When to stay .. or to go .. is a bad option

Nice singing, playing and recording.

I particularly like the word play with the "too old" and the "too young." That highlights the dilemma beautifully. Or maybe I should say .. sadly? When either choice is undesirable, it's difficult to overcome the paralysis of inertia - and you've aptly encapsulated that heartbreaking situation in this song.

Thanks for your take on the lyrics. I hope you can see I'm trying to put a little hope on the situation at the end - "find the strength, break the past, apologize, close your eyes, step aside" and that it comes through with the arrangement.

Yes. An anthem.
Really restrained delivery of these lyrics (which could have been way over-done). It is very nice to hear a song with poignant lyrics that takes its time and is clearly presented. (Small nit: the bass seemed awfully loud to my ears. But you may like it that way, so go with what you feel is best...This is just a personal preference.) Nice build of the song around 3:30 and following.

Gentle and reflective. Emotive vocal. Warm backing with some nice piano and the entry of the fuzzy guitar works well, too. Much enjoyed!
