Lyrics
ON THE VERANDA W&M FRANCISCUS HENRI
(ORIENT PACIFIC MUSIC)

We were talking about the situation
We discussed the things that we should change
We were talking about unwritten letters
And about the things we didn’t say

And the music played
And we danced on the veranda
And it began to rain
And we thought the world looked better

We were laughing about the situation
And we drank the wine that you had made
I read aloud a letter you had written
And I said some things I should have said

Janis Joplin played
And you wore your old bandana
And the sun shone through the rain
And drew a rain bow on the heavens

And the music played
And we danced on the veranda
And it began to rain
And we thought the world looked better

I love to feel your arms around me
I run my hands across your hair
Lets pretend that we are lovers
Lets pretend to dance on air

And the music played
And we danced on the veranda
And it began to rain
And we thought the world looked better

Great collaboration u2
Lovely imagery to this festive piece. You have a synergy working together that clearly shows here. I especially like the doubling of the vocals. It created a nice build at the end. The fade was perfect to end a lovely myriad of sounds.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your comments PatriciaG, The ending was something we toyed with, at one stage it was a minute longer, taking on epic proportions. We eventually restrained ourselves. Thanks for dropping in.

Veranda
Thanks Uncle, I think you've blown my cover! Most of my songs are about making a picture, a series of images backed up by the music.
Thanks for seeing it.

Like the Latin feel to this and the great hook in the chorus, Franc. The subtle use of the trumpet is also tastefully done. Quality guitar work, Philip. "Henri and Gardner" work well together. Strong post. Thanks, Peter.

On the veranda
Thanks Peter.
I said to Phil the other day..."we don't know what we're doing but we try to do our best" that was when it was decided to cut a minute off the fade.

on the roof
Hi Jarvo
I left out the verse where I kick over the paint, the cat walks through it,goes inside and ruins the carpet and I sleep on the couch.
Stay tuned for other inspirational settings!

Excellent song and I love your vocals. Philip sounds excellent here (of course he always sounds great). His acoustic tone is wonderful and his nylon lines fluid and melodic.

Deceptively simple complexity
There's so much to like in your music.

In your writing you paint engaging stories .. like running into a French speaking prophet calling Moscow from Vancouver .. following a modern girl dashing around in a small world .. or eavesdropping on the intimacy of two lovers dancing on the veranda.

You have an acute sense of structure .. and the deft ability to populate the spaces between the catchy repeats with animated characters and life situations. It produces a great mix of intelligence and emotion .. of passion and aloofness .. of the serious and the comic .. which all leads to a complex play for one's attention.

Add to that the warm intonations of your singing and the superb sound beds of these productions - hats off to the playing of Philip18 - equals some great productions.

These are songs meriting multiple listenings.

What can I say....
But "Thank you". I sometimes struggle with the lyrics, I guess I'm trying to create a musical poem (though I don't write poetry)
Paul Simon and Tom waits are an inspiration in that their lyrics often read well without the music. I try to create an image or images, rather than tell a story, and if I can add a moment of humour (even if it is a little uncomfortable) so much the better. Thank you again for your compliments.

I can't dance but I want to when I'm listening to this. Great lyrics and vocals and Philip I had no idea you had latin blood? (just kidding) The guitars sound beautiful/ melodic. It would have been great to have some of those nylon leads taking you out ... Wonderful!
Cheers

The nylon taking us out...
an inspiring thought and we will work on it ( in fact we already have) and I'm tempted to do some minor rework and put it up later.

I like the flamenco-tinged guitar and percussion, and the lyrics are evocative of a "magic moment". I like to think the record was "Cheap Thrills." thanks for posting!
