Lyrics
There’s a Hole in the Sky…. Word & music Franciscus Henri
Orient Pacific music/Alberts
There’s a hole in the sky,
Where the moon shines through
And it cuts through the dark
And it lights up my sorrow
I dance in the fountain in my old sandshoes
To an old show tune, “Tomorrow, Tomorrow”
There’ll be nobody there , to say they care
And if there were , I wouldn’t know it.
There’s a tear in my shirt
There’s a hole in my pants
But the light
Of the silvery moon
Doesn’t show it.

There’s a hole in the sky
Where the rain comes through
And it chills your bones
And makes you shiver
I lie under the bridge
As I’m want to do
To an old show tune, “Old Man River”
Can’t remember words, I can’t remember the song
But I know Old Man River keeps rolling along
That old man river don’t do,
What I don’t do
Jesus Christ
I’ve lost one shoe.

There’s a hole in the sky
Where the sun shines through
And lays you low about mid morning.
There’s a hiss in the traffic
And I catch the beat
Of an old show tune, “We’ve got steam heat”
And I lean on the wall; I catch a dime or two.
Perhaps just enough to see me through
The newspapers say we’re doing fine
I’d do some
If I had the time.

There’s a hole in the sky
Where Jesus looks through
And I think that I just heard him laughing

THERE'S A HOLE IN THE SKY
Reminds me of Harry Chapin. Sweet singer/songwriter piece. Strong vocal with a lot of resonance. The harmonica is very nice. Good call on the bass player!

Ah,
this takes me back to the early 60's when folk singers and balladeers told stories in song. Wonderfully resonant vocal.

Lovely
...folk song quality to this little waltz and you perform the vocal with such a natural, unaffected timbre. very pleasing, indeed. ... I'm not sure I "get" the lyrics. If they are about memories and the now-reality that nobody really cares about our life's experiences, then I 'm there. and if not, then I am afraid I just don't get it at all.

Thanks Paul
For having a listen, the lyrics are basically a bit of fanciful 'poetry' about a homeless man.

Another quality post
Another quality post, Franc. It does have a familiar feel, like a comfortable pair of slippers, probably due to your relaxed vocal and the 3/4 time. Liking the harmonica and the keyboard work. That Gardner fella does OK, too. Thanks, Peter.

Most excellent folk waltz
I love this. (Except I would replace the electric guitar lead with an acoustic instrument, cuz to me it didn't fit. A violin would have been perfect, or viola, are just an acoustic guitar lead.) I love the line "There’s a hole in my pants but the light of the silvery moon doesn’t show it." Something sweet and sad an magical and real about this. Simple and poetic. Well done.
