Rise!

Description
Still on a bit of a retro kick. A little rock/pop number I've been kicking around for a while. Kind of a throwback to those late 80s college days.

A bit, anyway.

Not sure if there's any kind of message to the lyrics. Maybe. It may be about a party. Or a riot. Back in the day, they could be one in the same if everyone was having a really good time.

Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Lyrics
Rise!
©2012 Joseph Gurner

Get up, get up
Get onto your feet now
Take it out take it out
Out to the street yeah

Bring it up bring it down
Shake it all gone
Rising up rising up
Into the dawn

Make it up, making out
Out of your mind now
Gimme, gimme, gimme
a drop of that wine yeah

Spinning, spinning, spinning
Out of control
Caught up in the action
That’s all you know

You’ve got to rise up
Throw away your chains

Come on in, come on out
down to the fun
Picking up the pieces
Until we’re all done

Carry out, carry on
voices all shout
Crazy, crazy, crazy
Leaving no doubt

Run away, run away
All the way home yeah
Hide inside you closet
Until you’re alone

Breathing out, breathing in
Into your soul yeah
Burning, burning, burning
That’s all you know

You’ve got to rise up
Throw away your chains

You’ve got to rise up
Throw away your chains

You’ve got to rise up
Again and again

Get up, get up
Get onto your feet now
Take it out take it out
Out to the street yeah

Dance around the ashes
Until they’re all gone
Burning, burning, burning
Singing you song

Tell it, tell it, tell it
The far and the near
Shout it out, shout it out
Let everyone hear yeah

Shake it, shake it, shake it
Dance it all gone
Rising up, rising up
Into the dawn

You’ve got to rise up
Throw away your chains

Rise!
I like the call to arms vibe of the lyrics. Interesting how it starts out with almost a Crazy Horse rock power. But then the background vocals and chord changes transform this into something that echo's a Brian Wilson production. Well done!

Thanks
for the invite to the party, Joe. I probably won't remember anything in the morning. I get the Beach Boys vibe.

This is
a really good mix. If your drums are not live, what are you using? They sound really good with a good stereo separation in my headphones which I can't get.

Okay, this is beyond weird...
No lie. I just started typing a wonderful, perceptive comment about how this was from a collaborative album between Joan Jett and Bono (with the Beach Boys contributing background vocals) and then I look at the previous comments and VIC HOLMAN already said it!

So...it must be true...
