Description
A song that seems to have come from various sources. I've always felt it was a deeply sad song, and have tried to get that into this version. Part of the interest for me was adding something to each verse so that by the end there's a fair bit happening, but it seemed to feel right to me. I hope you enjoy it!

Yes My Man.....
It is a sad tune but very nicely done, I like the way you played the vocal
melody on lead guitar that's how it's the pro's do it, nothing fancy no show off stuff just the real nut's and bolts of the tune....
Solid vocals and mix as well..

Outstanding piece of work...my Friend...

Glad you liked it, Tony. I had Garageband on loop for that solo, and played it lots of times to try to get a smooth melody - I find that harder to do than I think it will be - so I appreciate your comments on that! Thanks for stopping by!

Nice chord progression ... very melodic. The build up of guitars work real well. I don't find it to be too much ... a very tasteful natural build with with everything in the the right space. Your voice is always soothing to me.
Well done Philip!

Hi Stan
Glad you thought it came together OK, Stan. Thanks also for the comments on the voice - it was supposed to be a "close your eyes and imagine the way the man feels" sort of sound, and "soothing" was the intention. THanks for stopping by!

Hi Scotty
Thanks for the comments, Scotty - I understand where you're coming from with them. I think sometimes it would be a good idea if I gave my finished product to a another person to do the final production and perhaps take out a few things that I couldn't resist putting in :-) Re the Squier bass, I bought it mainly because it has five strings so that I could play it more like a guitar (not really a good thing!) and was relatively cheap. Still when I listen to real bass players I am envious both of the notes they choose and the tones they get. In summary, I may not be the best person to ask about which bass to buy, although I have enjoyed using the Squier.

Another fine interpretation of an old classic, Philip. A pensive, understated rendition. The build up of the instruments works well and the nylon sounds just right at the start. The lead tone of the Strat works well and the solo is tasty. Perhaps the ending could be a bit tighter? Nice one. Talk soon. Peter

Philip18 said 1865 days ago (July 9th, 2012)
Good morning!
Thanks for all that! The solo was in fact the Howard Roberts - the Strat is a little to the left and back in the mix, just giving some colour. Yeas, the ending sounds a bit like it came as a surprise to the players and they all hurried to finish more or less together. Never mind - next time I'll watch that more carefully!

Nice take on a classic! I was introduced to this one by Mississippi John Hurt. I like the way you introduce a more complex chord progression into the song. Love your picking and gentle vocal.

Glad you liked it Dave. I was happy with the strings, although they changed the style of the piece from simple folk to something more lush, I thought it suited the sentiments in the song. Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment.

I've always liked the song, Mark, as much for the chord progression as the lyrics. However, I do think the words lend themselves to a various styles of delivery, depending on what you see the singer's state of mind, and one of those is "soulful". Thanks for listening and for leaving a comment - much appreciated!

diminished
very creative interpration of the old classic.

Eh, you use a couple of diminished chords, but the strings stay on the old harmony. That clashes, for instance in 2:32, but really every verse.

Philip18 said 1859 days ago (July 15th, 2012)
Thanks
Interesting comment, Vic. Re the diminished chord, what I was doing was just running down the bass from C to B to A (with a capo, making the Key A) so I would have called that chord an Em7b5, but after your comment I tried it as a diminished and it works much better - I will use that in future! With the strings I think I was just trying to follow the bass run, but with my limited keyboard skills there's no guarantee that's what actually happened! Thanks for that comment - it's given me food for thought!
