Description
My problem (one of them): I'm always working in multiple directions. Other artists get good at one thing. They're folk singers. They're metal guitar players. I'm currently working on an a song cycle playing African folk songs on African traditional instruments, an "Americana" album using those same African instruments tweaked to sound like 80s synthesizers, an album inspired by 80s music done all on my computer (though tweaked to sound like it was done by a live band), an electronica album, and the album in which this song would be included, which is all about my love for acoustic guitar.

The acoustic guitar album is kind of on hold since I had to leave my good guitar in the States when I returned to Africa (they won't me carry it on and I feel too much anxiety about checking it), so I thought I'd share a work-in-progress with my MacJams friends. It's a traditional American folk song. And it features my first ever recorded harmonica. I'm still learning to play the instrument. Which probably shows to real harmonica players. I'll be honest: this is the only song I can play on the harmonica so far, and the guitar is all about showcasing the harmonica.

Love the tone of the guitar - bright and rich. Love the sparse playing that gives such atmosphere to the tune, and the variety that come in around 2:20. The vocal has plenty of feeling; the harmonica adds an extra dimension. Much enjoyed!

Back in my early 20s, I was practicing bass three hours a day, playing in a band with a drummer who practiced six hours a day and a guitarist who was one the "up and coming" lead guitar players of my home town. Plus, I was writing a song every day. I... [see more]
