Lyrics
i hate to drag this party down
but things are getting ugly now
and it's clear to everyone,
you're not having any fun

you came out of the west
with a black leather vest
riding on your unicorn
so self-impressed

you know…
i wish you'd go home, i really wish you'd just go home.

here's another axe-swing
we used to have a good thing
by executive decree
compassion's a disease now

so you got nine or ten of your
angriest friends
but whatever switched you on can
switch you off again, you know
i wish you'd go home, i really wish you'd just go home

go ahead and roam
wherever you wanna go
but still, don't you think it's high time you hit the road?
beat it on home.

I don't know much
about American politics, but I could dedicate this to most politicians. As far as the song goes, I really like the way you play the guitar and the complexity of changes you have chosen to use, that is very effective. Your Cool laid back singing style is also very enjoyable.

one of my faves from you, r67. i love the guitar licks/progression between the verses, but all of the guitar work is very good. the tune kinda has a wilco vibe to it, which is awesome. thanks for the download.

lol, I don't even know who you're singing about, but the song is way cool. I love the way the guitar lines are interwoven, and the break sounds almost progressive.

The politician in question is Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada. He is a hard-right ideologue of a type that Canadians have never had to put up with before.

I am happy to see a Prog influence creeping in, even if only momentarily. I am a big fan of Seventies prog like Yes, early Genesis, Gentle Giant etc. but I don't think I'd be capable of doing a full-on Prog tune.

Thanks for checking out the tune!

Taste and Distaste
Canada has political leadership? I thought it was a commune. Love the rhythm work man, it's fantastic. All those little changes. Even the lead is really part of the rhythm track. Super interesting. I usually hate any rock song not about relationships (it's a genre named after screwing after all) but I can get behind this. Especially in the current American political climate. As my wife says, 'they all suck'.

politicians
Normally I don't get too excited about politics, but our current Prime Minister (pictured above) rankles me to no end. Had to get it out of my system! Glad you liked the guitars, I was happy with the mix of tones I got this time. As always, thanks for dropping by...

jangle
I do have a fondness for jangly and twangy guitar parts. The telecaster seems to be a pretty good guitar for that. Thanks very much for the listen and comment!

I hear the Beatles in the music and the vocal style. Love that tricky riff that appears a few times. A universal message in the lyrics - there are a lot of politicians with little credibility! Much enjoyed.

thanks Philip, while not consciously beatles-influenced, they are big favourites in my household so I listen to them all the time. So the influence may be there! In fact, I was just enjoying watching their "rooftop concert" footage on Youtube.

Really glad you liked it!

Well done! Great guitar playing and distinctive vocals. You have a style to your song writing that stands out ... I am a fan!
Yes, Canadian politics are generally pretty boring ... but I'm right behind you on this one.

Distaste
for political leadership. Seems to be common theme. Always something to pull from, for sure. At times this sounds like it could be off of Revolver. Love the guitar sounds.

Ah, but the Olympics were a smashing success! And I love your James Bond Queen and especially that fashion beauty Duchess. My wife, especially, can't get enough of her. We forget you guys even have a Parliament!

My favorite part was that cool guitar transition into 1:01. Cool.

I Vote For Relic67
Hey man,

Your signature twangy guitars alerted my ears from the get go that this was a Relic67 tune.

Great stuff, as always. Keith Richards, Gene Simmons and Michael Stipe never sounded so good together!

Huh?

Bob
