Description

two weeks ago I tuned my 6 string banjo, gitjo, banjitar whatever, to a an open g tuning to see what all the fuss from banjo players was about regarding their antipathy toward the 6 string banjo.....thanks fellahs.....last week I went and bought this amazing Deering Leader Good Time California King model....this week I posted this ....it's not poifect and some of the rolls are a little iffy ....but I don't care ....you may not tell but inside there is just a big wide grin !!

Has anybody seen Jarvo?
There's nothing like a new instrument to get a smile on the face - there's certainly one on mine as I watch the video and enjoy the performance. There's something about a banjo that is irresistible! Good rolling tune and the occasional "iffy" rolls are all part of watching someone play live. Much enjoyed!
Jarvoid said 1708 days ago (August 24th, 2012)
The rolls are
getting better ....but I tell you what ,it makes you hungry all these
rolls you think forward roll, alternate roll, egg roll, cheese roll,forward-reverse roll, reverse roll........

How long have you had the Deering? A week? Sounding pretty proficient considering it's so new to you. I'd still be figuring out how to tune it!

well I had a week on the
6 string tuned to 5 before I went to the music shop and then completely
disgraced myself and could not play a bloody thing whilst the salesman was there....he went into another part with another customer and out came all the songs I had learned ....doh !

Thanks for checking this out

Yes I have seen her...
and she's 5'2" and has eyes of blue. I really enjoyed your delightful 'good times' feel here Chris--I kind of expected Leon Redbone to come into the picture to sing a chorus or two! Michael

It is surprisingly easy
to fall in love with what should be an anti-social,over loud and fairly simplistic yet not straightforward instrument as the banjo.......straight tuned in an open G,but with infinite variety and
scope available !

Cheers mate

You know Maurice
I have no finger discipline at all when finger picking the guitar, and have even tried out the banjo rolls on it,never stuck.....but this just makes so much sense...and the rolls are ,well not easy ,but the gent at Eagle music showed me the four basic rolls and it was a bit like "ahhhh well blow me !"

I want one of those!! ... open tunings are great for picking out melodies.
I have a banjo uke I picked up but it's broken ... one day I will find someone to fix it. Sounds and looks like you had a lot of fun.

Do you have a licence for those knees? I think there is a section in the Geneva convention that state you cant unleash knees like that upon the world without prior warning. Cool new toy though you've been spending again.

6-string
Is there antipathy to the concept of 6 strings, or only to cheating guitar players who simply tune to a guitar tuning and then pretend to play banjo?

Anyway, there's no cheating in this tune. You're the real thing! Enjoyed.

As a six string owner and player
I get the impression that it is a bit of both but more so the latter....but now I have taken two strings off my 6 string ,tuned it to GDAE and play it like a tenor ......like a mando really ...

Cheers
