Description
I really haven't been doing much lately music-wise and have kind of been a stranger around MJ - except for the occasional smart-ass comment in the forums - but inspiration, motivation and free time came together for me over the past couple of weeks and something actually came of it.

You can blame this tune on a five hour drive, by myself, singing along to The Cult, Jet, some Clash and so on. It awoke in me a longing for the more simple days when three chords was more than enough. A time when my vocal chords were younger and screaming into the microphone didn't scare the hell out of the dog.

It was actually fun getting to use my rock 'n' roll voice for a tune. And even though my soloing is pretty sad, I had fun trying it and what you hear is about as good as it gets from me.

Hope you enjoy and...

PLAT IT LOUD!!!!

Hurt Somebody
©2012 Joseph Gurner

Scarlet woman
With eyes on fire
You make me your slave
Even though I know you’re a liar

You drive me down
Til I’m out of control
Taking me places
You know nobody should go

You give enough love
Just to drive me insane
The you turn your back
Til I feel the pain

I pick up pieces
And when I’m all done
You start it all over again

You gotta hurt somebody
Hurt someone
You got hurt somebody
And you know somebody is me

You gotta hurt somebody
Hurt someone
You got hurt somebody
And you know I’l never be free

You play with me
Like a dog with a bone
And when you’re all done
You leave me alone

Eyes of an angel
And a body for sin
And when you kiss me
I know you’re gonna win

Oh the pain...
My voice is so out of shape these days that when I do vocals like this, I really only have one good take in me, then I have to rest my voice for a few days. Guess I need to sing more. I always feel better when I do.

BTW, I've just about got my hair ready for a good ole 80s rock video. Down just past my shoulders now...

Thanks for taking a listen Vic!

Alice doesn't live here any more...
Heh! Growing up, I used to listen to my brothers Alice Cooper 8 tracks constantly, along with Dark Side of the Moon and The Edgar Winter Group. So there's a little influence in there somewhere.

Thanks for dropping in!

You're very kind!
I think one of the reasons I enjoyed playing the lead so much was it was a good, arthritis-free day for my hands, so it felt really good.

Appreciate you taking a listen!

Good to see and hear you Joe! This is a very cool rocker. There's definitely an Alice Cooper "I'm Eighteen" vibe here. Love it!

Good to hear another from you, Joe. Always superior guitar work, but I'd relish another psychedelic piece from you. I wisely downloaded "The Age of Reason" years ago, and I often play it at my place for guests while RoboTrippin'.

I'd rank that tune above much of Pink Floyd (but not the Pretty Things or the MC5).

Rock it Joe!
A well-known Australian band leader and writer was asked at a songwriting workshop "Joe, how do you write a perfect rock song?". Joe replied in his straightest voice "first, you have to find three really great chords that work well together to tell the story you want to tell". "What then Joe?" came the reply. Joe replied "then you piss two of them off". Boom boom :)
Very gritty vocals here Joe, and a rhythm section to compliment it. But .............. no 8 part harmonies!
I'm almost as peripatetic around here as you these days. Must finish something soon!
Cheers from Oz
