Description
Susan told me the lyrics are about autism among other things. It's kinda cool the way this one was done. Susan had the lyrics and a vocal melody idea. She sung the rough draft against a click track and sent it to me. I wrote the accompanyment guitar, and drums. Then Yves came in and played a bassline. So then I put the pedal steel and piano in. And then finally Philip Gardner, and Nancy Burridge both sung a few backing harmony parts, and the final step was Susan tracking 3 harmony parts to make the vocal ensemble backing complete.

Credits:

Vocal ensemble:

Nancy Burridge - high and low
Philip Gardner - high and low
Susan Raines - high, mid and low harmonies.

So that is 7 parts sung in the backing. Made it quite full
Susan Raines - Author melody, and lead and backing vocals

Yves Baar - Bass guitar
Fred E. Jam - acoustic guitar, drums, pedal steel, piano, mix, and master

Susan Raines & J. Robinson - Author lyrics

Lyrics
He said I seem to live from day to day never knowing where life will lead
No plans for the future, no dreams to fulfill
And he wonders if this is what he is destined to be
The lost boy feels hurt and anger when his spirit should be free

He said I need a chance to prove myself, Oh Mamma can't you see
The boy that left you has got a heart after all
Oh Mamma can you give me a chance, just you wait and see.
The lost boy needs your guidance, can you give it to me

CHORUS
The lost boy looks in the mirror and doesn't like what he sees
He sees only failure, not the potential he could be
The lost boy feels pain and anger, he lives beneath a cloud
Dark thoughts are held within him, never spoken out loud

BRIDGE
But I'm here in the background waiting anxiously
To see a light come forth right in front of me
And my soul feels black and hollow and I'm searching for the light
I'm finding self-respect but Mama will be alright

She said my heart goes out to you my son, I hear your every word
Treat it as a stepping stone, take it slowly day by day
Just believe your soul is beautiful, the lessons are now in place
You were made out of love and you should never lose face

Don't ever feel that I threw you away, it's what had to be done
I love you more than words can say, this is my answer to you my son
Just believe your soul is beautiful and the darkness will fade away
If you could see yourself through my eyes, you'd be proud in every way

CHORUS
The lost boy looks in the mirror and doesn't like what he sees
He sees only failure, not the potential he could be
The lost boy feels pain and anger, he lives beneath a cloud
Dark thoughts are held within him, never spoken out loud

The lost boy looks in the mirror and doesn't like what he sees
He sees only failure, not the potential he could be
The lost boy feels pain and anger, he lives beneath a cloud
Dark thoughts are held within him, never spoken out loud

Well done to Susan and Freddy - fine song, well performed, and Freddy's vibrant production gives it real presence. Not bad backing singers, either :-) Thanks for the chance to be part of it.

Sorry I'm late ... man my life is hectic. This is as pure country as it gets. I'm very fond of a well composed country track and that's what this is. Fabulous performance by all. Fred, your multi instrument skills blow me away ... love the pedal steel and the piano is played and mixed well in the scape. Great wall of vocal harmonies... I hear country radio!

Quality collaboration
Quality collaboration and an uplifting message. Susan does a fine job and the Sunday choir like harmonies add poignancy to the song. Freddy, your pedal steel really gives the piece its flavour and the mix/master is spot on, as always. Congratulations to all concerned. Regards (belated), Peter.
